Amazing clay!

John S.July 2, 2025

This product is of excellent quality and delivers what it promises. It guarantees a very strong hold for the hair. The finish is, as promised, matte. The hair doesn’t shine, it just looks smooth and healthy. It’s true that applying the product can be very difficult. It’s very firm and thick. You need to warm it up well beforehand. You can take a SMALL (!) amount into your hand and simply warm it up using a hairdryer ;) And don’t put it in wet hair. I have very thick, medium to long hair. The hairstyle lasts all day. You can also easily restyle it with your fingers during the day, no problem. And yes, it washes out easily with shampoo. No problem at all. Read more

best product I've found to hold my heavy hair

tr_113pNovember 14, 2025

I love this product. I have very heavy hair and have usually had to resort to firm-hold styling gels. this is the first product I have found that provides me with sufficient hold while remaining pliable and allowing for adjustments throughout the day. I also think it smells great. i have seen some reviews that aren't fond of the residual left on their hands. I don't find it to be an issue, but could understand how some might - it is certainly sticky. but that stick is what makes it work so well in my hair. then I just wash my hands 🤷 Read more

Awesome hair product

I absolutely love this stuff, it’s just a little pricey. But has an awesome hold, a light woodsy smell, the only reason I give it four stars is it’s just expensive for a small container Read more

Best stuff for my hair

JaymFebruary 13, 2016

I'm a Hispanic male with wavy, thick, dry frizzy hair. My haircut is short on the sides 1-2 guard with a scissor cut on the top. About an inch and a half in length. I have to say, since I've been using hair products (since I was 12, I'm 24 now) this is the only one that I'll buy consecutively. I've tried quite a few products, AC fiber, AC pomade, AC molding clay, AC gel, AC texture lotion, defi pomade, axe, whatever paste, axe spiking glue, short sexy hair wax and frenzy, redken maneuver wax, and several other gels/pomades/wax/paste. This by far is the best I've found. Ive had some success with other products some that seemed to work for a while then I realized it just didn't give me the look I wanted, which is why I waited so long to do a review on this product. I wanted to make sure I actually liked it, instead of convincing myself that I did because it was kind of expensive. I don't even want to know how much I've spent trying to find a good product. I've gone through several trends from messy hair to a side part. For the most part now I do an informal side part. This product can do both pretty well. The problem I've had with most products is there is either not enough hold, too thick, or matte products that make my hair look dry with no visible texture or separation. This has a little bit of shine. Which is great for my hair since it is very black and sometimes dry and frizzy. It's important that you try different ways of putting this into your hair. Takes a bout a little less than a dime size amount for my hair and make sure to rub into your fingertips very well. For me, wetting my hair pretty thoroughly first, then towel drying works best. If I put it in dry it doesn't do as much. Sometimes I put it in dry just to give my hair a little more texture. This stuff has great hold, and it seems to get better through the day. I find that if I fix it, go to work and by the time I'm done I can mess it up a little for a casual look and it still looks great. I can't say enough about this product. However this is my experience, I've tried products that others have raved about that just did not work for me. Hopefully this will work for you and you can save some money instead of buying the wrong stuff only to toss it in a couple of months. I use this almost every day and it's lasted several months. I will be buying again. Read more

Excellent hold, texture, and value

Daniel S.December 12, 2011

I have been using this product for a few weeks now and am very happy. I was concerned by a few bad reviews on this product, but excited by its rating of 0 for chemicals tested to cause cancer, and 2 overall at the Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. PACKAGING One of the reviews stated they were shipped a 2oz container, although the item listing says 2.5oz. I can verify the item shipped to me was 2.5oz. The nice thing about a 2.5oz container is it is 0.5oz larger than all of the products I was using. So, already it is 25% more product. The container it comes in is very heavy and made of solid glass. It is a nice shape and not too fat, and easily fits in my hand when cupped without worry of dropping it. PRODUCT I use a substantial amount less of this Clay than I did other pomades, fibers, etc. I have thick red hair which is about 3" tall. I use about a pea sized amount of this, rubbing it briskly between both hands, and then very roughly rubbing it deep into my hair. This pea sized amount will easily last me all day. If my hair does start to fail at holding up I simply lightly dampen my hands, and run it through my hair for an instant re-hold. Like I will say later with the shampoo, this is very hard to wash out (and in this case, that's a good thing). Another review complained the product was too "clay like." I hate to break it to you, but if you buy this item thinking it's not a clay you're going to be disappointed. This product is more of a clay than it is anything else. Do not buy this product thinking it is a pomade. Clay, just like it sounds, is dirt. Now, don't be turned away from that! Clay is a very natural product that allows for a very nice matte finish with minimal crunch. However, when running your hands through hair with any type of clay in it you're going to feel almost a "balloon" like texture (it's not sticky). Another review said the product was hard to wash out. They're correct. When shampooing my hair it feels almost "dry" (but I'm pretty sure it's just the texture left on it, and not that it is actually dried out). This product does take a bit of shampoo to get out, but if you're going to just slap it right back in your hair again what does it matter? Another review said the product left a glue-like texture you could visibly see. If this product is doing that, it is because you probably dried your hair too much before applying it. To prevent this make sure you put the clay in shortly after towel drying your hair, or simply lightly dampening your hands and then running it through your hair either before application, or after. It also may be doing this because you didn't rub it in enough. Make sure when rubbing in this product to use a lot of pressure and briskly rub it evenly and deeply into your hair. OVERALL So far I have been very happy with this product. I will continue to use this product and change my review if my impressions of it change in the future. As it currently stands I will be purchasing this item again, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a well holding matte finish with minimal crunchiness. Read more
