Saw some recommendations for using beef tallow products and decided to pick this up to try. This soap felt creamy and moisturizing without leaving a film that some natural soaps can. Tallow seems to be all the rage these days – I'm seeing soaps, balms, cremes, cooking products, etc. So I thought I'd investigate the hype and give some soap a try. I can say that it's good soap, and it reminds me a lot of castile soap. It is virtually odorless and lathers nicely, sufficiently so even for shaving. Like castile soap, I don't find it particularly moisturizing though. It leaves my skin squeaky clean, and I sort of like that because it tells me the oils and dirt have been removed. But as compared to a moisturizing bar like Dove, it just doesn't do much to hydrate the skin, at least not as far as I can tell. Nor do I find it superior to castile soap, at least not enough to justify the price. That said, it is still good soap, gets me clean without leaving perfumes, and does not irritate my skin. Lathers up well and the 4oz bar is comfortable to hold while bathing. The box says there's no fragrance added but it is not odorless - it smells milky and oily the way good olive oil soap smells. Most importantly, there's nothing in the smell that makes you think, "Hey, this must be made of tallow!". Also on the box: "NOTE: Yellowing as the soap ags is a natural part of the curing process and will continue over time." So, maybe don't put this in a guest bathroom where it will be used only occasionally and instead put it where it will be used daily or even multiple times of day so it might get used up before it turns yellow. Anyway, I like the way my skin feels smooth while I'm showering and after I've dried off. I'm older and am not used to spending $6 for a single 4oz bar of soap, but it is good soap. Read more
