One of them barely worked and then died prematurely. The others were all fine, but one dud is 20%. If the bad one hadn't worked at all, I would have dinged them another star or two, but it did work ok at first. Good price compared to stores, even with one dud. Definitely better, and safer than the cheap ones. I've had several cheapo lighters explode in my car in the summer. I've never had a bic explode in over 30 years of being a stupid, stubborn smoker. Smoked for 55 years and used the best reliable lighter since the early seventies. BICs never let me down as I always carried two. They eventually ran out of fuel after about 3000 strikes and easy to use. Keeping them in your pocket eventually allows pocket lint to fall in the striker/nozzle area blocking or diverting the spark from the gas flow when lighting. So, you daily tap the lighter upside down and blow the lint out like blowing out a candle. Average life span about six months including cycles in the washer and dryer. Best lighter source for edc survival and camping. Many times I have pulled out of puddles and rain blow off water and it eventually lights when dry enough. Read more

Love these! I thought that disposable lighters were pretty much all the same, but after buying these, I've changed my mind. I like to keep lighters in stock for our frequently occurring power outages, so I can light oil lamps, candles and fire-starters in the fireplace. I found that the inexpensive generic lighters were unreliable; wheel would freeze or stick or the flint would be used up before the fuel. That never happens with these BIC lighters. As I get older and my thumbs don't work as well, I find these lighters easier to use than the generics and reliable, even when they've been sitting in the drawer for months or years.
