First let me say that this bird feeder works well, is easy to set up and does a good job identifying birds. The AI based data base is free for 30 days and then you have to pay a yearly subscription cost but it's worth it. As others have mentioned the camera sends videos to your phone and keeps a running count of how many times the particular species has visited the feeder. So far it has only mis-identified one bird labeling a grosbeak as a stellar jay. Anyway, I'm very happy with the camera However, no fault of Birdsnap, but the feeder also will attract squirrels. I made the initial mistake of mounting the camera on a tree and the squirrels found it within the hour. The feeder does have an alarm you can trigger from your phone and initially it scared the squirrels away but they quickly learned that it couldn't hurt them and they ignored it. I got plenty of pictures of squirrel butts as they chowed down. I even tried the hot pepper laced seed that is supposed to dissuade them but they happily ate that too. They also chewed through the cable that attaches the solar panel to the camera and the battery finally ran down. Not wanting to give up on the bird feeder I removed it from the tree. I purchased six-foot high pole that has a mounting platform on the top and side. Squirrels are only supposed to be able to jump around five feet thus the need for a tall pole. I had to attach two pieces of wood to the top platform so I could mount the feeder on top and the solar panel on the side. I was able to repair the solar panel by stripping the wires and reattaching them (though the wires are thin but it worked.) Finally I purchased and mounted a squirrel baffle and placed the whole thing in the middle of my back yard away from any trees that the squirrels could jump from. It worked. The squirrels can climb the pole but can't get past the baffle and it's too high for them to jump. Now I get plenty of birds and they seem to knock enough seed off the feeder so that the squirrels can graze on the ground underneath so everybody is happy. Anyway, good camera and I'd recommend it but be aware you will attract squirrels. It’s much bigger than I had anticipated and made of quality materials. I’m so excited for this purchase and highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys the birds. The camera is remarkably clear and great quality. The only thing I wish I knew was you need a membership for the Ai bird identification. It’s currently $50 for the year or $5 a month. It’s not too bad but I have a million subscriptions and don’t want another. I used paper towels and a large Dunkin cup to show size. Read more

This bird feeder is a snap to put together. The opening for the seed is in the top rear, and the locking clasp is a little awkward to open. The seed chamber design is shallow and partly taken up by the camera, and it is easy to have seed spillage when loading. This feeder doesn't hold as much as I'd hoped so I have to fill it daily. The water perch, fruit forks are great. I can't comment on the hummingbird feeders b/c I haven't used them. Camera images are very clear, and the B/W night images are great. I love the features being able to turn a light on, sound a brief alarm or use the speaker to talk - we've played some practical jokes on a few squirrels! I planned on only using it for bird watching (and squirrels naturally) but it's great to keep an eye on the backyard. I don't need to pay for the app's cloud storage, the free version is great. You can download videos that you like and share in messages. It just keeps a few days worth depending on how you configured the app settings. The only real reason to remove a star is because of the solar charger cable. It should have been reinforced where the cable connects to the charging panel (it's fixed, not removable). The usb-c cable (it comes with adapters) is easily chewed by wild animals. Even under warranty the seller won't replace it, or at least offer a coupon to verified purchasers for a discounted replacement. (They currently charge $29, but other sellers offer very similar chargers for far less). I recommend using tie wraps to secure any extra cable and to wrap the area where the cable is connected to the panel with heavy duty tape (or better yet, use wire shrink wrap tubing) to fortify the cable at it's weakest point. Otherwise it's a great, lightweight solar charger! I love this feeder and have no regrets buying it but wish I'd reinforced the cable when I first installed it. Now that I see how it's put together, I'll probably buy a separate outdoor camera like a Wyze, and a separate solar panel charger and install in a different bird feeder (one that's metal)!! Read more

When I saw this, I just had to buy it for my youngest grandson. Really, for the whole family. You can watch the birds eat on your phone. I thought it would be fun for the boys. They have enjoyed watching the birds and even named some of them. Read more
