My daughter-in-law had this steamer for years and I loved it. I ordered it for myself, and it hasn't disappointed me. It is small enough for small kitchens, but large enough to steam two large artichokes. I just pour in water, put my veggies in the container and set the timer and forget about it. When I am finished with preparing my family's meal, I hear the beep (steamer is done) and add perfect veggies on the table. So easy. The veggies are never over or under cooked, just perfect. Black & Decker really blew it when they discontinued making this cooker. It cooks all kinds of rice perfectly. It's a breeze to steam foods and easy to clean. Best of all it is very lightweight. This is ideal for those with disabilities and senior citizens who can't lift a metal or ceramic cooker full of water and rice. It is compact so it stows easily and I don't have to purchase and store two different appliances. I wish the Black & Decker marketing department had someone who thinks outside the the box to attract different customers to their product. Read more

It seems the seal that keeps the water in the bottom of my steamer is defective. I thought I had it fixed by pushing it in a little, but last night came home to water all over the counter and floor after setting it out for several hours to be ready to turn on when we got home. Despite being a mess to clean up, it seems dangerous to have electrical appliances sitting around in pools of water. Save your box and receipt, so you can return it if needed. I was disappointed to discover that you cannot cook rice and veggies at same time (unless you put the veggies IN with the rice. So I am upgrading to a steamer which allows me to do this. This was a good purchase, I think, to figure out whether I would use it and what I really wanted in a rice cooker/steamer. I just wish I had my $30 back. Read more
