It's hard to know how to review a double-feature like this. The original Blair Witch Project was a groundbreaking film and has been controversial since its release due both to its unconventional marketing strategy (which was arguably even better than the movie itself) and non-traditional filmmaking approach. Both in terms of cinematography and narrative structure, Blair Witch broke all the rules and forever changed the horror genre. If you remember those days when the movie first came out and don't yet own a copy, you'll probably want to pick this up. On the other hand, if you're coming to Blair Witch for the first time having somehow avoided seeing it for all these years, I'm honestly not sure how well it would hold up for a first watching decades later. Much of what it did first has since been emulated by other movies, and it no longer feels as fresh as it once did. That said, whatever your thoughts on the movie itself, Blair Witch is definitely an important part of the history of cinematic horror. This package does not include the sequel, Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows, but does include the other sequel, simply called Blair Witch. Unfortunately, this sequel is not up to the standards of the original. Though it follows much of the same format, it feels more like an attempt to recreate the original film's successes and revisit those glory days than to offer anything new to the genre. Even still, I will argue that it's worth a watch, simply because fans of the franchise will enjoy spending a bit more time in the Black Hills Forest. All together, I do recommend this set. Both films are included on separate discs but in a single DVD case. While I'd prefer if the other sequel were also in the set, this is nevertheless an affordable way to round out your horror movie collection with a modern classic. Read more
