These are a great option for someone who is training in a self defense program. I purchased these for my students. I utilize these constantly when teaching my lvl 2 Krav Maga Classes. Knives are durable and hold up well. They are rubber which is a good thing FYI for all the keyboard warriors. My viewpoint as a self defense instructor is to teach and train students in progression when dealing with knife attack response and knife threat responses. Using the rubber knives gives them a physical training blade that is going to make them have the feeling of getting cut or stabbed with not a harsh consequence (but the consequence is still there since they still feel the blade to a certain extent). The rubber training knives are exactly what you need to learn safely and effectively. They have enough "give" to leave only small bruises (if you hit REALLY hard), but are stiff enough that they don't whip around like some dollar-store toy. As they are rubber, not metal and wood, they do balance differently, and are lighter in total than a real blade would be, but it is not enough to make a difference in training, I think. Good knife to practice slashing or pocking as the blade is flexible so would not risk injuring your training partner. Would also make a fine sparring knife for same reasons. It is not jelly or anything so still handles like a knife but the softer mold and flexibility allows it to give more when in contact. For target strikes on the dummy or a board I would recommend Cold Steel Leatherneck-SF Rubber Trainer Knife. It is molded to be less flexible with stiffer edge. Absolutely perfect for sparring. Some might complain that getting poked or whacked with this thing isn't punishing enough to discourage bad habits, but I strongly disagree. Someone more interested in learning how to defend themself than "beat" their sparring partner will almost certainly still learn from getting hit. You can do drills with this like the Cold Steel rubber knives, but you can also really get up on your partners and hit multiple times, go to the ground, et cetera, all of which kind of seem inevitable in a real prolonged knife fight. Oh and ah, don't be fooled. Even though it's pretty soft, trust me you'll know when you get stabbed the first time. It comes with instructions including a suggestion to coat the sides in chalk to keep track of hits. I personally feel that thrusting strikes are much more important with knives, whether with standard or reverse grip, but for anyone with interest in cutting techniques that would likely be effective. I am 100% pleased with these training blades. They are perfect weight and size, they are flexible enough not to do any serious damage. But, they still hurt. you get hit you know it. I have used rubber and foam trainers yes they work but this set actually feels like your holding a knife and not a piece of foam or rubber. For those who are looking for a good training blade. I got theses to train for krav maga and karate, these are perfect. The weight is like a real knife little more weight in the handle like a real one would be. You could put chalk on the " blade" to see how bad you are at dogeing if you want. Read more
