High Nutrient Content And Great Taste! I'm Excited!
When I first looked into juicers, I didn't understand that there are generally two types. There are cold-press, masticating juicers and centrifugal juicers. What I wanted was a high, nutrient-rich juice. The cold press juicers actually crush fruits and vegetables and there is less oxidation keeping more nutrients intact. Centrifugal juicers are faster but introduce heat and leave juice behind. I'm lucky I got the right one. One important note: I couldn't do a thing with this juicer until I realized that the lid must be open to take it apart or put it together. I couldn't take it apart to clean it or put it back together until the lid was open. There's a tiny blurb that mentions that in the instruction manual, but it wasn't very apparent. In any case, I was easily able to crush several apples, pineapple and kale. It's easy to use. It's the prep-work that takes time. I learned quickly that I will need quite a bit of fruit and veggies to produce just one cup of high quality juice, and the nutritional recommendation consists of 80% vegetables and 20% fruit (that's a suggestion and who knows if I'll follow it). Of course, I need to do much more testing with more ingredients, but it certainly worked well with what I had and thankfully, they include a brush that allows you to intricately clean pulp that is left behind. There's a learning curve when it comes to preparing and freezing what you need for the week and finding the right mix of vegetables and fruits that you'll enjoy. My goal is to freeze my favorite juices and do this once a week or so - not every day. I don't want to cut up vegetables and fruits, remove seeds and pits, on top of cleaning a juicer everyday, but it works, it's a lot quieter than I thought and I'll update with my first recipe! (FYI - You do have to cut vegetables and fruits, but you can also buy frozen fruits and vegetables and freeze juice in zip-lock baggies). I've already been drinking kale, carrots, papaya, sweet potatoes, and pears, but it's crazy-expensive and I want to create beverages for myself. I can't wait to try some cool recipes that are seasoned to my taste! One recipe that looks really good is actually included in the instruction manual for this juicer! I used to have an extremely disciplined cooking routine, and two meals a day were usually "liquid". Now, I'm surprised I don't have scurvy from lack of fresh vegetables in my diet. When it comes to juicing, this is exactly what I needed (it does not double as a blender for strawberry daiquiris, btw). I only wish I had gotten this long ago. I had no idea you can freeze juices (for 6 months or longer with a cold-press juicer)! It prevents frequent trips to the grocery store and waste from unused vegetables and fruits. I love salads and kale and it shouldn't be a problem to get the vitamins I need but keeping fresh vegetables around IS difficult when you're traveling or someone else is cooking for you. I want to grab what I've made from the freezer and go. It'll be nice to stop paying $10 for every bottle of juice I've been buying. Read more
