My husband says this has a solid feel overall, and he loves the convenience to dial in the length he wants and that it cuts beautifully! This trimmer has great function being able to swap length attachment for when you like things a little longer when it’s beard season. Cleans up easily, and seems to let hair fall away as you trim better than other brands he has used. Overall he rates it an 8 out of 10 only because it’s a bit bigger than he would like it to be and it doesn’t have the wide attachment like his previous model from a different brand. Read more

There are many mid-level multifunction hair-trimmers on the market, and this one is priced at the upper end of that mid-band—not so much an indication that it's expensive, because it's not, but of how inexpensive many of these competing products are. Is it worth it? The bulk of the product is made or assembled in Malaysia, but several key components, including the cutting head, are still made in Europe, which differentiates it from many of its competitors: Braun, I believe, originated in Germany, and while the product is no longer made there it still maintains some of its continental panache. It has some features which help differentiate it from the competition also: (1) charging stand — resisting the ubiquity of the type-C charging cable, the unit uses a less common connector on the AC adaptor, which plugs not directly into the unit, but a stand that the unit drops on top of vertically. At the cost of universality you get a stand which also neatly stows the unit, and frees you from the necessity of completely drying your hands to insert the charging cable. (2) trim adjustments — two cages for the head and a rotary dial give you an unusually large range of cutting lengths, which are great for quick self-trims: you absolutely can't create an inadvertent furrow in your hair by cutting too close in a section of your scalp where you are limiting yourself to, say, 15 mm... at least not shorter than 15 mm. It comes with a selection of attachments including a rotary nose-hair trimmer which I could have skipped; mine did not include a body hair trimmer (no loss to me either), though I would have appreciated the small bottle of blade oil shown, which I didn't find. Also included was a Gillette razor with more blades than many cars have cylinders. The convenient bathroom charging stand and the quick change head enclosures and length adjustment make this a winner for me, and with the Braun name, it's certain to be well-appreciated as a gift. I have a fairly course and somewhat thick beard. I've tried many electric trimmers over the years and this one is by far the best. I typically trim my beard to about a 5, and at times it can get as long as around a 9 before I knock it back down. I only use a trimmer on my beard so this review is specific for beard uses - * The control lock on this trimmer is a game changer. My other trimmers don't have this and purely rely on the tension of the guard to hold your setting. If you push too hard or get lazy, you can push those in and take a chunk out of your beard. Not so with this Braun, you dial in your setting on the wheel which is nice and positive/clicks into place, then lock out the adjustment with the switch. No more uhohs! Seriously, it used to happen to me once or twice a year and with this Braun it's a thing of the past. If you're like me and currently trim your beard with a trimmer that lacks this, it's worth the upgrade for this feature alone. * No issues when trimming. No tugged hairs, nice and clean consistent cuts. * Attachments are labeled. Seems minor, but if you're looking for a particular attachment and can't remember what's what, it's stamped right on it. I've always liked the design of Braun products. This one is no different, it is an all‑in‑one is kind of a do‑everything setup – beard, hair, and body – so I’ve been able to replace a couple older trimmers with this one tool. The Precision Wheel gives you 40 different length settings in small 0.5 mm steps, which makes it really easy to dial in stubble, a short beard, or longer growth without constantly swapping guards, and the length lock keeps it from randomly changing mid‑trim. The blades feel sharp and cut cleanly without tugging, even on thicker beard hair, and the AutoSense tech does a good job adjusting power so it doesn’t bog down on dense spots. I like that it comes with dedicated attachments for body grooming, ear and nose hair, and detailing, plus the included Gillette ProGlide razor is nice for getting super clean lines on the cheeks and neck if you want that barbershop look. Battery life is solid – around 100 minutes on a full charge – and the whole thing is waterproof so you can rinse it under the tap or use it in the shower if that’s your thing. The only minor downside is there are a lot of pieces and attachments, so you’ll want to actually use the storage pouch or you’ll lose something, and the adjustable guard system is more about convenience than ultra‑precise barber‑level fades.
