The biggest thing about this lamp that differs from the pictures is that the wooden petals are opaque, not translucent, so it does not 'glow' the way the pictures in the listing represent. There is some reflected light from the upper petals, but that's reflected from the petals below them and isn't very bright at all. The wood is matte, and possibly a glossy varnish might improve this. The petals are paintable, which provides a great opportunity for some creativity. It is not a very bright lamp, even with a 100W-equivalent bulb, so it shouldn't be planned as the primary light source in a room. It does make a wonderful ambient light, or romantic-lighting source, like a bunch of candles. It is beautiful to look at and really enhances a room. The light it projects is almost entirely upward, and it casts a great pattern of light and shadows on the ceiling. Assembly was a piece of cake. The only hitch is that it has to be assembled on the stand, not put on afterwards, because of the small collar. This is a minor issue, really. The instructions are very clear and understandable, but even without them the parts are all numbered and so anyone should be able to figure it out. The lamp will easily disassemble and be reassembleable without instructions. The petals are all flat and so would pack easily even without the original shipping materials. The petals themselves are sturdy, a little less than 1/4" thick, and slot snugly into the vertical segments. A little force is required, and you have to be cautious to push in straight, so as to not break the wood. I didn't break any pieces, but I can see that as a possibility. Anyone who has put together any slotted-wood toys or small furniture will understand the process, and how much force to apply. Read more

I bought this lamp for the back part of my office that I am redoing for my healing center called Lotus of the Valley. This lamp looks like a lotus flower to me and thought it would be perfect. Reading the other reviews I thought it may be tricky to put together but I loved how it looked in the pics that customers submitted. So I decided to buy it! It arrived today at my office and I just happened to be working. No customers were coming in during the last hour so I decided to try to put it together. The instructions were easy to follow and it was actually really fun for me to do! (But I am super used to putting things together) It took me maybe 20 minutes total. The secret for me was to push the 2 pieces of the wood together so that they completely interlock, not just fit in together. It took some force and wiggling. Only one piece I found is still a tiny bit loose and may need some glue to hold it in place securely. Once I got it together, I turned it on and it was beautiful 🤩 I’m going to buy at least one more. It makes my office feel more like a comfy, cozy home which is how I want my guests to feel at my spiritual healing center. So happy with this purchase! Read more

Impossible to assemble if you're not an octopus. Pieces do not fit or stay together. (Those ribs had all been inserted in the top ring.) If I had realized the shade was not assembled, I would not have ordered it. What a waste of my time! Read more

This lamp is a statement piece. It’s on the larger end compared to a standard floor lamp shade, but it looks spectacular. Don’t rush when putting it together. The pieces need some gentle force to snap in place. It’s worth the effort. When lit the lamp gives a fair amount of brightness. We love it. Read more

This was a risky get, as we were unsure whether it would look good or do the job we needed which was provide some soft warm light in our loving room instead of always having on the overheads. Putting it together was easy although a bit time consuming - about an hour - but it was actually pretty fun, like doing a 3D puzzle. But the finished product is the real winner - we love our new lamp. It's very unusual and artful and casts just enough light to read by with some interesting patterns on the wall (3 starts for brightness as it's not the brightest lamp we could get but that wasn't what we wanted anyway - so 5 stars in that regard for the amount of light it generates). Our son was even saying how much he loves it and that we should get another one. The only concern is, I wouldn't want to see this fall over - it would likely get destroyed as the wooden petals are all very thin balsa wood. Read more

It's not the easiest to assemble, but I didn't have to use glue or do anything special. If you have a patient person in your house with assembly skills, ask them to do the shade for you. Once it's done, it's a beautiful ambient light (not a reading lamp) with style that can add real beauty to a room. It would be great with a colored light bulb, but be careful not to exceed the bulb requirements. It's not the sturdiest thing in the world, but if the stand becomes wobbly, just tighten it up. I recommend this light! Read more
