- Rinse media in ½ gallon purified freshwater before first use. Media may heat during rinsing—this is normal. Do not rinse with saltwater. Use 2 grams of Extrax Phos per 1 gallon of aquarium water. Monitor phosphate levels regularly. Replace media if phosphate stops decreasing or begins rising. Slight color change does not indicate exhaustion. For best results, use with a pre-filter to reduce debris. Place in canister filter or 150μm mesh bag. If in filter bag, place in medium flow and flip bag occasionally.
