This Brita Pitcher does what we all buy them for--it filters water efficiently. There are no whistles and bells or flashing lights, just a simple clean-lined filter system that produces great tasting water. Some have complained about the lid falling out. I just place my thumb and forefinger on the lid and can easily pour with one hand having no problems with the lid or inner reservoir falling out. Just follow the directions: Wash with soapy water, soak the filter for 15 minutes in water, insert the filter so it fits snugly into the slot, fill with tap water along the side and not on top of the filter. Wait until all the water drains into the bottom reservoir. Works great with no carbon particles. The pitcher is just 4 inches wide so it fits nicely into the refrig door. The lower resevoir holds 4-6 cups of water which works well for my husband and I. I have not found this item to be "cheap",just a neat little filter system with a neat little price. Read more

I live in NYC, where the water is safe and clean-tasting straight from the tap...so when I moved into college in Pennsylvania, I could not drink the water here. There's a lot of chlorine in PA water, and drinking it was literally like taking a gulp of pool water, which was even worse for me, since I'm used to such clean tap water. After a couple weeks, my roommate and I both started getting sick from drinking the water. I couldn't afford to keep buying bottled water, and was dehydrating frequently, which was also getting me sick. Clearly, there was a huge problem. So, I invested in one of these. BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE. I can not think of ANY better way I could have spent $11. My roommate and I immediately noticed a difference in the appearance of the water- it was crystal clear, whereas before it was cloudy and had tiny white things floating around in it. It also took away the chlorine taste COMPLETELY. Neither of us have gotten sick since using it. It's really great for a dorm room, too. We have a micro-fridge unit in our dorm, and it fits perfectly on the small shelf inside the door (It is about the width of one standard water bottle.) It holds a pretty decent amount of water for 2 people. It fills about 2-3 water bottles before you have to refill it. We fill it about 2-4 times a day, but we find that it's really not any hassle at all- whenever we go to the bathroom, we just fill a large plastic bottle with water on the way back and then pour it in. Takes no time at all. In short, this pitcher is easy to store and use, comes at an amazing price, and is a great source of clean, fresh, safe tap water. Read more

I didn't have strong opinions about home water purifiers until I bought this. I've been drinking well water most of my life so it seemed kind of pointless to have a water purifier when the water was already great. When I did live on city water for a while, I had one of those kind that attaches right to the faucet and you just turn a knob for filtered water. I wasn't impressed because the filtered water always came out so much slower. Well we bought a camper and when we go traveling, that's when we find that some campgrounds don't have great water. We couldn't use one of those faucet filters because it wouldn't fit on the camper's faucet (and I didn't like them anyway). This Brita pitcher is so much better for several reasons. First off, you don't have to wait for the water. You just refill it when it gets low and it just makes more water for the next time you need it (and it seems to work a lot faster than the faucet filters and that's probably because the filter in this pitcher can be bigger). Secondly, most of the time we want cold water. At a campground, the first few gallons you run come out of the hose which can be warm in the summer time. With this we can leave the pitcher in the refrigerator so the water stays cold. This pitcher fits nicely in the refrigerator -- even in the camper fridge which is smaller than a home fridge. The water this pitcher makes tastes good too, even when the tap water is nasty, like city water. We've only had a couple of places where the water tastes kind of funny even after filtration through this filter but I guess that has something to do with hard water. Read more

I live in an apartment with a very small refrigerator. This Brita model is the perfect size for my ridiculously tiny fridge. It's a little too tall to fit into the side door, but it doesn't take up much space on my top shelf. The water tastes just as good as the bottled water I used to buy. I haven't noticed any black granules in the water, as one reviewer claimed. I also love that the replacement filters are reasonably priced (at certain stores, anyway) and "one size fits all." You never have to worry that your replacement filter won't fit because they're universal to all Brita pitchers. Only one downside - after you pour a glass of water, you'll probably need to fill the pitcher back up from the tap. It's such a tiny pitcher. You can only get a few small glasses or one large glass of water before seriously depleting your supply. You need to keep the filter wet, so you'll have to re-fill the pitcher every glass or two that you pour. It's not a serious inconvenience, but this size wouldn't be ideal for a large household. It's perfect for a college student or a person living alone. Read more
