Much nicer than my old P-Touch.

Fairly compact with small rubber feeling buttons with a nice quality feel. Lots of functionality that I will probably never use but the price to too good to pass up. Prints perfectly and requires no real setup to get going if you just want to label file folders and stuff. Label material feels durable and sticks well. Read more

Best choice for me!

I LOVE this label maker. I have tried a few different brands but this is my favorite. Why? I like the slightly larger size machine and it’s easy to figure out . The variety of colors for refills is a definite plus. (My go-to choices are the clear and the black.)I don’t want to have to use an app to print labels. If you are looking for a user friendly, quality, no nonsense label maker, go with this one ! Read more

You need 6 AAA batteries or buy a wall charger

Although I've wanted a label maker for a long time, I've never purchased one. The price point on this little beauty pushed me over the edge, BUT I had no clue how to operate it. First off, it needs batteries (6 AAA) or you have to buy a wall charger separately. It doesn't really say that in the description, so I had to make a trip to the dollar store this morning. Then, there is no operating manual, only a pictorial guide to installing the tape cartridge (easy) and batteries. Then you're on your own. If you know and understand the symbols, you're good to go. I, however, had to find a video tutorial, which I did (try Mom the Maker of Stuff on YouTube, she has a good one). I've included my scribbly notes in the photos, but here are the basics. The five buttons across the top of the qwerty keyboard are (left to right): Fonts (there are three of them, Helsinki, Brussels, and Berlin) Font Size (large medium, small) Font Style (normal, bold, outline, shadow, italic, italic bold, vertical) Frames or borders (15 of them such as shapes, stars, hearts, cars, unicorns, etc.) Symbols (250 of them) I haven't fiddled with this one much yet Hit the return key/arrow to update you selection and to get out of that part, you can always go back and change it You can change the length of the label from auto (about 2 1/2 inches to a size from 1.2 inches to 12 inches It really is quite an amazing machine, especially for the price. I bought it to label my punches (I'm a scrapbooker), but I think it's going to be a lot of fun finding new projects. I hope this review helps you get started. Have fun. Read more

Here's how to use he menu...

Initial review: This thing is horrible. There's no ok or select button, so how do you select a menu option? There's no up/down button so how do you change the menu option. They must have hired someone from Adobe. Terrible user design, no instructions, hidden buttons, too new for Youtube. $20 for a reason. Don't pay more. 5 minutes later: the enter button is located where it would be on a keyboard (the enter key at the bottom right of the device instead of up by the menu button and selection arrows). So here's how it works: Hit menu, use left/right buttons to scroll through attributes, hit keyboard-enter and the left/right buttons will now scroll through the sub-menu options, hit enter again to select and save. A few months later: I love it. The cursive font is really lovely and goes well with vintage, antique, or feminine decor. This is the only device (without an app or software) that prints cursive. Now that I know how it works, it's all easy-peasy. I also bought rechargeable batteries. Read more

Expensive Tapes, Dim Screen, and Extremely Frustrating to Use

I had high hopes for the Brother P-Touch PT-N20, but this has been one of the most frustrating label makers I’ve owned. I bought it to replace my older Dymo unit, expecting something more modern and user-friendly, and instead it feels like a step backward. First, it does not include a printed manual, and the online instructions are not very clear. The functions are not intuitive, and figuring out basic features like font changes and formatting takes far more effort than it should. The screen is not backlit and is very hard to read unless you’re in bright light, which makes navigating settings even more frustrating. Power options are another issue. It requires multiple AAA batteries, which are not included, and while it has a 9V adapter port, it is extremely picky. I tried several 9V chargers with the correct plug size, and every one of them displayed a “wrong adapter” message. That means you are essentially forced to purchase the branded adapter separately, which adds even more cost. The tape system is also limiting. It only uses specific Brother Btag cartridges, so you cannot buy affordable third-party replacements. The tape itself is not cheap, and the printer wastes a noticeable amount at the beginning and end of each label. Over time, that adds up. Compared to my old Dymo, this feels far less flexible and much more expensive to maintain. Overall, between the dim screen, confusing controls, proprietary tape, and adapter limitations, I regret this purchase. I strongly recommend looking at other brands or models before choosing this one. Read more

Great, but needs batteries

Nice and easy to use. It doesn't have a power cord, but takes 6 AAA lblatteripes. That's my only complaint about it. Read more
