My son has been using this backpack for the past almost 3 months and it is holding up strong. He is in 3rd grade, so you can imagine how rough he is. He loved the cross body bag and it really looks like the picture. Read more
Most "school bags" fall apart by the first semester—usually a victim of a busted zipper or a frayed bottom. After putting the Bunie School Backpack (Blue) through its paces, I can confidently say this bag is built for the marathon, not just the sprint. Whether you are buying for a 2nd grader or a high school sophomore, here is the expert breakdown on why this bag stands out in a crowded market. Design & Aesthetics The blue color is vibrant without being "childish," which is a difficult balance to strike. It has a modern, sleek silhouette that appeals to older kids (13-16) while remaining functional enough for younger students (7-12). The "cool" factor is high here, but the design is rooted in practicality. Storage & Ergonomics The "Large" designation is no joke. This bag features multiple tiers of storage: The Main Compartment: Easily fits a standard 15-inch laptop, three heavy binders, and a couple of textbooks. Organizational Pockets: The front pockets are well-distributed, perfect for pens, calculators, and those easy-to-lose charging cables. The Comfort Factor: This is where the Bunie bag wins. The S-shaped shoulder straps are thick and breathable. As a reviewer, I pay close attention to the "load distribution." Even when packed to capacity, the padding protects the shoulders and prevents the bag from digging in. PROS Durability-First Construction: The nylon fabric is water-resistant and scratch-resistant. If your student tends to toss their bag on the gym floor or the bus aisle, this material can handle the abrasion. Zippers That Last: In my 10 years of testing, zippers are the #1 point of failure. The Bunie uses reinforced, smooth-gliding zippers that don’t snag on the lining—a huge plus for frustrated kids in a hurry. Safety Features: I was impressed to see integrated reflective strips. This is a crucial safety feature for kids walking home or waiting for the bus in low-light conditions. Side Pocket Strength: The mesh side pockets are deep and elasticized, meaning they actually hold a 32oz water bottle without it flying out when the child runs. CONS Size Variance: While it’s rated for 7-year-olds, it is a large bag. On a smaller 7 or 8-year-old, it may look a bit oversized. I would recommend adjusting the straps to their tightest setting for younger kids to ensure it sits high on the back. Internal Padding: While the laptop sleeve is present, I would have liked to see a slightly thicker foam base at the bottom of the bag for extra drop protection for electronics. Overall Input The Bunie Large School Backpack is an exceptional value-for-money purchase. It manages to bridge the gap between "fun style" and "rugged utility." It’s rare to find a bag that a 10-year-old thinks looks cool but a 16-year-old would also be willing to carry to high school. If you are tired of buying a new backpack every six months, this is the one to get. It’s a "buy it once and forget it" type of product. Pro-Tip: Because the material is water-resistant, you can clean 90% of messes with just a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid the washing machine to preserve the integrity of the internal coating! My 4th grader likes this bag. It comes w a pencil pouch and a messenger bag. The color is very different than the picture. We liked the turquoise and ombré change as shown but note that it is only black w dark blue. We kept it. It’s big enough for all of his homework, lunch and he can even fit his device in it. Read more
