Absolutely wonderful product. I had one back in the 1990's and wore it out (same design, different company). This one should last the rest of my life. It was relatively simple to assemble. I read all the reviews on this chair and was truly terrified that it was going to be a disaster, but I've wanted a couple of these types of chairs for a long time, so I went for it. I didn't notice a particularly striking odor, and what vague scent there was from the finish or whatever, aired out immediately. The parts were all included and are of good quality. The chairs have held up well under tough outdoor conditions. We have strong winds here and so the wind grabs the cloth like a sail and knocks them over constantly, but they take the abuse. As another reviewer commented, this chair is comfortable for people with bad backs. I have a good friend with back problems and these work for him, so that's a plus. The only other thing is that the picture makes it look like you would be sitting pretty upright in the chair. These are not adjustable and when you are in them you are low to the ground and your face is pointing slightly up. So they are really more lounge chairs than stare-directly-into-someone-else's-eyes chairs, or eat-a-messy-hamburger-chairs. As for the assembly, I did it by myself and I'm an ordinary not-particularly-engineery girl. First of all, use a drill. Obviously, if you're trying to assemble these with a screwdriver, you are going to feel like a wimp in no time, male or female. That's crazytown. Second, accept that it's going to take you twice as long as you think it is, even though it isn't particularly difficult. Like baking a fancy cake. Third, be patient. On my first chair, the holes on one piece seem to have been oriented in reverse. It took me a while to figure out, but it was all fine and the finished product is indistinguishable from the 'correct' second chair, unless, I guess, you are super into those "what is different about these two pictures" puzzles. For starters I found this chair difficult to assemble. The instructions looked like they'd taken a bad copy and reproduced it many times. There was little definition of the diagrams. It would've helped to be able to see the slots and bolt holes more clearly so you would know if you have the piece oriented correctly. A couple of mistakes I made had to be corrected. It took more than an hour to assemble what should've taken 15-20 minutes with instructions that were clear. I found a You Tube that helped a bit though it had no sound and was in fast motion. Another review mentioned arms would be nice, and I agree with that but it would be difficult to incorporate and not inline with the style of a sling chair. So I subtracted a star for assembly difficulty. I also didn't find the chair to be all that comfortable, and because you stay in a reclining position it's not conducive to anything but laying back and relaxing. Nothing wrong with relaxing, but having a cup of coffee or soda would be very clumsy unless you leaned forward to sip or drink. And you would not be on eye level for conversation with others. So I subtracted a star for this. The quality however is very nice. The wood is beautiful and once assembled it's very sturdy and you can tell it will last a long time. I can see where others would give this 5 stars...particularly if they has someone assemble it for them and they found it to be more comfortable. One more thing in closing...I considered this as a beach chair but a better application would be on a deck or by the pool. It's not as light and convenient to carry as a conventional beach chair. The chair is solidly built; both the wood frame and the screws/bolts are all really high quality. Make sure to have a power drill available when you assemble the chair. It makes the assembly easy and the company includes the necessary drill bits for the screws! If you don't have a power drill, you can still put the chair together but it will be much harder and time consuming to do by hand (the do provide the tools for this as well). Overall, exactly what we wanted: comfortable, convenient to fold up and store, and it looks great. Read more
