These pads are super cute and the puppy couldn't chew them up like he would if they were the normal papery type disposable pee pads. The puppy only peed on it once when he was in his travel crate on the long journey home and it didn't leak through and washed well with no lingering pee smell. After that one time, he never peed on them again, just liked to lay on them silly goof. :)But I love the size and look of these and will be using them again for any foster dogs we take in and maybe, if we are lucky, even a Great Dane puppy by the end of next year! 2 years later and they are still going strong. I no longer use them daily but they were a lifesaver after my pup had major surgery that had him out for a while and not able to go outside to use the bathroom. I layered them on top of each other and my pup laid on top and was able to comfortably relieve himself and it was easy for me to switch them out. They are great for daily use and indispensable for emergencies. Orig review: My puppy has struggled with his indoor potty training and these reusable pads were the answer. I’ve tried regular disposable pads and disposable carbon pads and he would refuse to urinate on them or simply tear them up so I gave these reusable pads a try and he much prefers these when he has to urinate indoors. I have an HE front loading washing machine that apparently isn’t very effective at cleaning and they would always come out still reeking of urine. I began giving the pad a quick but thorough rinse off in the tub, let it drip off excess water for 30 minutes or more and then put it in the machine. I also add some baking soda, in addition to the detergent, in the dispenser to help neutralize the urine odor. I can wash up to three at a time using this method and they come out smelling fresh. I am careful not to use any scented detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets etc so he doesn’t confuse these pads with anything else by scent. I use Nellie’s powdered laundry soda which has no scent and use scent beads for my regular laundry. The urine takes a minute to fully soak in so be careful not to pick up the pad too quickly after use or the urine will drip off the pad as you carry it. The no slip bottom works pretty well on laminate floors but if he gets startled and runs off quickly it will slip a little. They fold up nicely for storage. They have not leaked at all. I have two sets of these plus an additional set of slightly smaller pads but my pup prefers these over the others, I haven’t a clue why though. They have minimal odor blocking and while you may not smell a strong urine odor up at your nose level, at dog nose level the odor is detectable and the closer to the floor you are the stronger the odor is. I typically go through two of these a day, one for overnight and another for during the day while I’m at work. I don’t know how long they will last (description claims 300 washes) but I’m expecting to replace them annually, however, they may actually last longer than a year as they each only get washed about every other day. This item is a decent size for smaller dogs or controlled environment like a crate. It absorbs well and is durable. It states in description on Amazon that is has some sort of backing that is meant to keep it from sliding. Well that doesn't work as it constantly slides on microfiber recliner everytime someone sits down or dog changes position. Lastly, it's very rough. The one side with backing that's supposed to keep mat from sliding is understandably rough. However, the otherside is also a bit rough feeling. These can't be comfortable for pups as I don't even like touching it sometimes. Almost forgot, material (not sure what kind). The material appears to be durable and anticipate it will last awhile if taken care of. I'm neutral on recommendations. It's all a matter of preference for this item I guess. Read more
I bought two different sizes. 18x24 and 24x36. I have 3 dogs all under 5lb. They do not leak! Absorb quicker than disposable and do not get my dogs feet wet if they walk across. I can tell on two of the designs if they have been used. By the end of the day they have a strong old urine smell. I just pick them up and change them at the end of the day The 18x24 are too small for the number of dogs I have and really just for one dog. They do not like to reuse where they have already gone. Two dogs are fully outdoor trained and unless I am gone they go outside. One of my dogs already tended to use my rugs to pee on so they could entice a dog that doesn’t normally to do so. My very well trained older dog hardly uses them and it has not altered her to peeing on my rugs at all. They wash up nice and are a great alternative to disposable. I do intend to purchase more of the bigger 24x36 again and wish I had just gone with that size on all. I would recommend to others as well. Read more
