They are calling these basketball shorts, but I think they could be anything shorts. Great for outdoor activities and even great for just casual wearing. I have been wearing them to sleep in for the last couple nights because they are so comfortable. Style.. I think they are meant to look like the old school two-layer gym shorts that we used to wear for P.E. They are not dual layer but have like small poka-dots on them to mimic that style. I got totally fooled and ordered them based on the pictures in the Amazon add. But honestly, I don't care that I got fooled because these shorts a very comfortable. I like the longer length, and you don't need to worry about showing off too much when you sit down. The waist band is not constricting, and you have a drawstring if you need to tighten them. I wish the Zippered pockets were a little longer as I have trouble getting my hands in them without rubbing on the zipper. It would also be nice to have a pocket in the back. None of this is a deal breaker though. I am 6'3" 195 # and the size Large fit me just right. I think that these are sized accurately and I would order your normal size. I like the blue color, and it looks just as it does in the pictures. I will probably order more in the other colors as I want to start riding my mountain bike more now that we are getting into warmer weather. I think they are perfect for that activity. I got these for my son who just keeps growing (lol) and is full blown in mens clothes, he is 13!!!! These are soft and are mesh like, others stated they look layered but really are not. Its a dark blue fabric under and the light blue is on top. They are mesh but a small mesh and are slightly see through. There are pockets which he loves but they have zippers which is nice so items don't fall out. These are a gift so he has not worn them yet but M seems to be the size he needs, not so much for the width (he is a twig) but for the length. Very pleased with these shorts. I went up a size from my normal as I figured with the drawstring I'd be good even if they were a bit loose and I was right on.
