This model is a really nice upgrade from my previous Casio altimeter. Although the latter was (and is) great, this new model: - Has larger digits, so it's easier to read (especially for an old geezer like me!) - Has a dedicated, much larger light button that's no longer right next to the adjust button -- so it's MUCH easier to use in the dark! - Has a much brighter night light -- so it's MUCH easier to read at night - Has a really good, functional band (much better than the PITA one on my previous model) I'm VERY happy with it -- definitely 5 stars for this one!! This watch was a replacement for my 12 year old Casio Pro Trek PRW 3500. The new watch is lighter, thinner and the buttons are easier to activate. I love the rugged and functional looks of this watch. Also, unlike the Apple Watch, you don't need to worry about recharging the battery, it's solar powered. A big plus if you plan to be somewhere that does not have access to electrical outlets. The only thing missing in this watch vs. the 3500 is atomic auto timing. But with the watch being +/- 15 seconds per month that is no big deal. Read more

I bought the PRG340 to replace my old SGW300H (battery powered with dual sensor barometer/altimeter and temperature) that failed after several years. It served me well as a rugged watch and one that was useful on mountain hikes. That watch was only $35-$40! I didn't see a newer Casio model like it, so I started considering any watch type. I ruled out an Android watch and other smart watches as I do not want to deal with recharging my watch frequently. I considered the Garmin Instinct Solar which looks even better in looks and features than this Casio, but reviews revealed that the battery fails to hold it's charge after about two years. That Instinct cannot be powered by solar alone. So it came down to the Casio PRG 270 and this 340. For $40 more, the 340 provides me a better looking watch for my taste, the dual level screen for the compass marks over the numerical watch face, and the rotating bezel for compass work. Other than that the features are the same, so get the 270 if you like its looks better and don't care about the enhanced compass features. Check out detailed reviews and the Casio instructions online for the cool trek mode and its capture of max/min elevation, total ascent/descent, waymark readings, etc. As someone else said, it's a great dumb watch. I will update this review when I receive my replacement, but for now I wanted to add my experience to the many others who received the wrong colored watch. Casio really should address this issue, as doing so might lead to the removal of the nasty warning from Amazon (front and center on the product page) that this is a frequently returned product. Also, the little cloth sack the watch is sent in is cute, but leads to fuzzy-covered unboxing photos like the attached. EDIT: I did eventually receive the correct item, and it is now my overall favorite watch. It is nearly two years old and still looks great, despite all the whacks it's taken on door knobs and other protrusions, as is common for big body watches. I have never seen another watch that looks like this one; it is truly original. It looks like a tool of vast capability, and it is. The compass is fast and accurate, and it's fun to climb a mountain and watch the altimeter go up and down. One time while hiking in the Adirondacks I became separated from my partner and this watch actually helped me retrace my steps and find them. The strap is very comfortable and I hardly notice the lightweight unit on my wrist unless I need it. The solar power is the icing on the cake. Casio knocked this one way out of the park. Read more

My wife wanted this watch to wear when she is fly fishing, she had no problem setting the times or calibrating the Barometer/Altimeter. Says it's comfortable and easy to read. So far so good seems happy with it Read more

I bought the titanium band version as I prefer metal bands when available for longer life and greater comfort in high summer temperatures. They are subject to scratching but as a retiree I am easy on watches. My sample remains within 1 second of my atomic clock after 2+ weeks of wear so excellent accuracy. No real need for Multi Band 6 radio synchronization with this accuracy level though I do have watches with that feature. The triple sensor provides more features than I need and I like the sunrise/sunset calculation capability. Solar charging is also great. Overall a excellent light weight outdoors man's watch. Currently, and when I bought it, the Titanium band version is a best buy as Amazon has it for the same price as the resin band versions. Per the listed MSRP the titanium band version is normally a $50 cost premium. To me the titanium band version is a much dressier looking watch and titanium does not wear out like resin bands do.
