CFF Wall Ceiling Mounted Pull Up Bar with 300-Pound Working Capacity 750 lb Static load

The first thing I noticed when bringing this box in from the porch was that it was HEAVY. This pull up bar is beefy! Very solid steel construction with a nice powder coat finish. It was actually double-boxed AND bubble-wrapped. It arrived in great shape. I do not have any wall area in my garage due to the cabinets and shelving I've installed, so my intent was to hang this from my ceiling. It is designed to mount parallel to your joists, the brackets are exactly 48" apart to match typical joist spacing. However, I needed to install it perpendicular to the joists. This takes a little more thought. I ended up installing a couple of strips of 3/4" plywood and drilling two more holes through the support brackets so I could lag-bolt the brackets into two different joists. Quick tip- if you plan on drilling any holes in this be sure to use titanium bits, this steel is heavy and will quickly destroy an ordinary drill bit. I used the lag bolts that came with it to attach it to the joists, then used shorter lag bolts through the remainder of the holes to lag-bolt it to the plywood. I am 5'-8" and needed the bar high enough for kipping pull ups, kipping T2B, etc. Even mounted to a 9'-2" ceiling the bar was a little too low, so I drilled a couple of holes in the side brackets and moved the bar up a few inches.I installed eye bolts in the lowest holes and will use those to attach some shoulder mobility straps to. After getting the bar installed I put it through the paces and wow, it is really solid! No bending or flexing at all. I love that the bar is welded to mounting tabs that are bolted through the side brackets, this bar will never rotate like some other home setups do. It has a slightly textured finish which allows a good grip even without chalk. The bar itself is 46" wide, so plenty wide enough to hold a pair of rings that can be slid to the side when not in use (I have a pair on order to do just that). Good: Packaged pretty well, frame is solid, holes lined up, very sturdy product, plenty of distance from wall to do kipping/butterfly pull-ups as well as toes-to-bar. Ehhh: Frame had small damage, not sure if is shipped that way or it was damaged in transit, I don't believe the small dent will affect the functionality. With the frame so sturdy I would have liked to have had the bar a little stouter. Bad: The hardware was scattered throughout the box, I guess the hardware bag should have been taped shut. Install: Not too bad, but would be nice if you had a helper. I also think instead of lag bolts the hardware use regular bolts. I ended up buying 4" bolts and drilled holes through the wall and placed a 2x4 on the backside. I hope my wall can take it. I did not expect such a solid piece of equipment! This is a professional grade pull-up bar and is designed to withstand heavy use. My only concern is that my wall studs (2x6) are solid enough to support this long-term. I did not use the wall anchors that were included for fear of the larger bore size weakening the 2 inch wide studs but with careful measuring and double checking I hit the two support studs on center and the pull-up bar is on securely. IMPORTANT NOTE: the center holes of the pull-up bar I received measured 46 1/2 inches with the bar fully secured to the supports. This was very strange, and I would recommend the manufacturer to increase the width of the bar to ensure that the holes on center measure 48 inches apart when connected to the supports. My work-around was to place heavy duty washers over the bolts between the supports and bar to use as spacers to achieve the correct measurement to hit the studs on center through the holes of the supports. Heavy duty. The separation from the wall to the bar is great, but the holes didn't line up when attaching the bar to the supports. One side was perfect, but on the other side only one of the holes lined up. I had to drill out the other hole to almost to get the thing together. When three out of 4 holes line up perfectly and the last is off my 3/4" there is something wrong in manufacturing. Also the box was beat up bad when it got here. Could have been packaged much better. Half of the mounting hardware was missing and although the company that sold the item send out a whole new set of mounting hardware, the lag bolts were not the same size as the original lag bolts. Really well-constructed -- spaced perfectly to mount to wall joists. Great for tall people who want to get their feet up off the ground before attempting pull-ups...you can mount it as high (or low) as desired. Sturdy materials. My only complaint is that it's super difficult to screw in two of the bolts. The triangular pieces have a bolt in the 45 degree angle where you simply can't fit a drill. So you have to either do this with special tools or leave one bolt un-done, which I'm sure they wouldn't recommend, but is what I had to do. It still holds fine for me with 3 bolts per side instead of 4, but I wish they'd have thought about this and even put a small hole in the 45degree bar where a socket extension would fit through to bolt it in. That said, I really highly recommend the bar itself--just wish they'd fix that install issue. Read more
