Using the Feeding Guidelines below, feed the appropriate amount of Checkups for your dog’s weight 1-2 times daily as a dental treat. Checkups are not intended to be a complete and balanced food source and should not constitute more than 10% of your dog’s daily calorie intake. As with any treat, always offer water after feeding. To soften Checkups for your pet or to aid in dividing, simply wrap in a moistened paper towel and microwave for 10 seconds. Monitor your dog to ensure Checkups is adequately chewed because gulping any edible product can be harmful or even fatal. We do not recommend Checkups to dogs weighing less than 20 lbs or under 6 months old. Feeding Guidelines: Weight (lbs.) 20-25 1/2 treat 1-2 times per day 25+ 1 treat 1-2 times per day This feeding guide provides a starting point for the amount of food to give your dog each day. We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow them to become overweight. Checkups Dental Dog Treats were recommended by our vet as they are one of the few chews accepted by the Veterinary Oral Health Council. Our Lab is 8 and she has perfect teeth – no tartar or plaque, and she hasn’t required a professional cleaning. We give one chew about every 7 to 10 days. She knows the Checkups as her “special treat” and goes crazy if we ask whether she wants one. She’ll run to the closet where only these chews are kept and prance until we hand one over. They keep his teeth clean, his breath smelling nice, but they are high in calories. We couldn’t understand why he was gaining weight (he’s 4 1/2). Nothing had changed, but his age. We discovered one bone a day is too many calories so we cut back to one bone a week (cut the bone in half and give it to him Sunday’s and Thursday’s). Read more
We have been using these for 10 years, and have found that they help prevent plaque build-up and promote good teeth and gum health. Our very picky Havanese dog has continued to eat them for 10 years, has not gotten tired of them, and still has all of her teeth! Since our dog is small (about 15 pounds), we cut them into 1/8ths and give them to her during the day and when she goes to bed to ameliorate any food particles she may have retained. I was honestly surprised by how much these dental bones improved my dog’s breath. Within a short time, the difference was noticeable, which makes me feel better about her overall oral health.
