Checkups Dental Dog Treats were recommended by our vet as they are one of the few chews accepted by the Veterinary Oral Health Council. Our Lab is 8 and she has perfect teeth – no tartar or plaque, and she hasn’t required a professional cleaning. We give one chew about every 7 to 10 days. She knows the Checkups as her “special treat” and goes crazy if we ask whether she wants one. She’ll run to the closet where only these chews are kept and prance until we hand one over. They keep his teeth clean, his breath smelling nice, but they are high in calories. We couldn’t understand why he was gaining weight (he’s 4 1/2). Nothing had changed, but his age. We have been using these for 10 years, and have found that they help prevent plaque build-up and promote good teeth and gum health. Our very picky Havanese dog has continued to eat them for 10 years, has not gotten tired of them, and still has all of her teeth! Since our dog is small (about 15 pounds), we cut them into 1/8ths and give them to her during the day and when she goes to bed to ameliorate any food particles she may have retained.
