Easy to use and impressive results for a low cost sharpener. It won’t restore a damaged or corroded blade, but it works very well for knives that are in good condition. After sharpening, my kitchen knife will slice through a tomato simply by sliding across it under its own weight without any additional pressure. I would say though, that knives need to be resharpened frequently - literally with every use - in order to maintain that level of performance. Read more

Out Henkels knives come out almost razor like. Some others not quite so much, but OK. I suspect it's the type of steels used in the knives. It's a good sharpener compared to some others we have had. Read more

I got this on the recommendation from America's Test Kitchen a couple of years back and it will do both the 15* and 20* bevels and hones too. It's easy to use and I keep it in a drawer at my island and thus is handy when I need to hone at the very least. Works great on Japanese 15* bevels as well as the European 20* and the honing feature helps restore the knife's edge until it needs a full sharpening, which one should do periodically anyway to keep the knife safe to use and cuts easily. It lives up to the recommendation from ATK and I find my knives stay sharper more often than in the past. Read more

I have had two of these. Wouldn't risk buying a different one since this one works so well. My husband uses it every day to sharpen his pocket knife and I use it weekly to sharpen kitchen knives. It's easy to use and is not too expensive. We had our first one for over 5 years, even with daily use. Highly recommended! Read more

I liked it when I first got it. I use it to sharpem my Wustoff knives. I don't use it a lot so it sorely disappointed me when it wore out so quickly. It seems the Asian wheel lost all of its diamonds so it doesn't sharpen at all. The polishing wheel seems to still work but still doesn't sharpen enough. Example: it doesn't get sharp enough to cut tomatoes. It smashes them. Try cutting sweet peppers, and it can't cut through the outside skin without leaning hard on it. Very disappointing. Read more

Solid construction, good quality so far. Simple to use and its compact size fits in a drawer so there is no need to take up valuable shelve or countertop space. I have more knife sharpeners than Bayer has aspirin. This one is the best of the lot so far. I generally use the slot for American knives (20 degree sharpening angle) for all my kitchen and hunting blades, followed by the polishing slot. The polishing slot negates the need for me to use my honing rod. I haven't tried sharpening a serrated blade yet. Read more

Good at sharpening both Asian and domestic blades. I use it a lot, and this is my third unit in about six years, so they only last for a while, hence the four stars. I really like being able to have my small pocket knives sharp, and this makes it easy. This company (and others) make other types, but this three slot unit is my favorite. As an afterthought, don't expect to sharpen serrated blades on this. Some other products make that claim, and you will come across those as you research, but don't get your hopes up. I use diamond files for those if the serrations aren't too small. Read more

I had been sharpening my good quality kitchen knives with a rod and a "V" shaped sharpener and polishing rods. My knives got sharp but still couldn't pass the paper cutting test. I saw this sharpener reviewed by America's Test Kitchen then bought it. What A Difference! It reshaped, sharpened, and polished my knives extremely well. The more I used it the better my knives became. It even improved my junk knives. I've been paper testing my knives so much now I'm running out printer paper! There is an electric version that is well over $100 that ATK prefers but this is the best sharpener for the money, a best buy. Read more
