Heavy with no installation guidelines or adhesive
This set of corner shelves from Chunful is much heavier than I had expected. I am sure marble has an average weight per square inch but I was not expecting the heft of these corner pieces. The weight does create a concern, in my opinion. My biggest concern is that even though I thought my shower was square, the corners instead of being 90 degrees, are more like 87 degrees. This leaves a gap along both walls and in the corner, with only the front corners of the shelf touching the existing walls of the shower. My plan is to bridge this area with the weight bearing caulking. The pair of shelves is only that, two off white marble corners with rounded fronts. The color in my opinion is not what I would call white. They might be in terms of marble, a natural white or alabaster white. My shower surround is solid surface and it is white. A slightly different white compared to the color of the corner shelves. As I mentioned above, this set only includes two marble pieces, there is not anything to assist in installing these in an existing bathroom, there is no hardware or adhesive included. There are also no guidelines or suggested mounting methods. The only two methods I have determined from some online research are 1. Using power grabbing / weight bearing adhesive caulking to adhere the pieces to the tub surround. This is where I become concerned- that If the adhesive caulking and some painters tape does not hold the weight, until it dries or after it dries long term, it will fall and break my tub. Option 2. Using a dremel tool to cut a niche into the tub surround to inset this shelf into - in my case the solid surface tub surround. This method would also work with tile or a granite surround but requires precision. If installing in a new shower, the tile installer would leave gaps for each shelf and they would install as they installed the tile. In my opinion, this method would not work with a moulded / plastic / thin tub or shower surround. This method as well as the first one would also require weight bearing adhesive / power grabbing /caulking and taping to support the calking until it dries. I have not installed these corner shelves yet for fear of damaging my tub if my caulking or install falls. As I think this through. I think that using a foam mattress or folded thick mattress topper and pillows to line the tub could protect the tub. Thinking of the process, I can use an old shower curtain liner or a paint drop cloth over the protective padding. When I chose these corners, I wanted to add more functionality to my tub surround. I think these corner shelves are a great way to achieve that. At the time I chose this set they were $50. I think this is a good value for the product. I hope my thoughts and photos help someone.
