I'm not sure what critics are talking about. The fabric is cotton, a nice crisp cotton that holds its shape through the day. Otherwise barrel pants sag. It is pretty lightweight but not remotely see-through. The high waist is super-flattering and gives a flat look to the hip, which keeps the barrel leg from making you look like you're chunky. The big pockets are a nice surprise and they're wonderfully comfortable. I didn't notice wrinkling as I wore them through the day but you can always take a light iron to them or a steamer. I do have one complaint ... for us short-legged women, there needs to be a shorter length and it also would be nice of the pants were a little bit more tapered at the bottom to create a barrel look rather than just a wide-leg look. I love these enough to try doing a little tapering myself. Wish they came in a wider variety of colors because I would love to get a couple more pair. They can dress up or down, that's another nice thing. I wore mine today with a brown cashmere sweater that I turned under for a cropped look, a silk bandana and minimalist gold necklace and nice sandals. Could have worn to the office, out to dinner. With a fitted silk blouse and heels, these could go to a cocktail hour. Read more
The horseshoe silhouette of these pants is very current and looks great. The high-waisted cut is flattering, and they are a fun departure from standard trousers. The fabric is a bit stiff, however, and has no stretch, particularly through the hips, which makes the fit less forgiving. They also tend to wrinkle easily throughout the day. The material quality and weight is decent otherwise. No transparency issues. It's a good value for a trendy pair of pants, but be prepared for a rigid fit and the need for some ironing. Read more
This is my first time purchasing clothing from Amazon since I was searching everywhere for a pair of barrel pants that would fit me right and feel structured but still light enough for a humid climate. These are absolutely it for me! I have a slightly curvier athletic body type, with a 12-13" difference between my waist and hips (27-28" waist and 40" hips) and these in a size M fit me absolutely perfectly. there's a slight elastic in the back, but it's not very obvious so they still look polished. I love the slightly structured cotton material, but I don't find them stiff as other reviews have mentioned. They hold their shape and don't wrinkle easy but are still comfortable enough to wear on a 6 hour flight. I've washed them a few times (and always air dry) and they wash great as well. Read more
So everyone keeps complaining about the stiffness... I dont understand why, but ok. it is great! I love the structured look the stiffness helps facilitate to barrel pants. They fit so great... love the fabric, which reminds me of khaki pants that have been pressed and are crisp (that'sthe stiffness people are whining about). The wrinkles fell out with my steamer. I was really hoping for a baggy comfortable pair of pants, so I went up a size. They did end up being baggy and comfortable. But, because of the material being on the stiff side, they kinda stick out at the sides and make me look even wider than I am. Not at all flattering on me. The material is mid-weight and I’m hoping after a few washes, the material will relax a bit. For pants of this style, drape is important, at least for the larger sizes (in my opinion). Overall, I like them. The length is just right for me (I’m about 5’5”). I just gotta work on the stiffness of the material and then these will be perfect. My advice, once again - Don’t size up!
