I love this aftershave but I don’t use it as aftershave. I regularly use Clubman Pinaud as cologne, and applied sparingly as the scent is quite strong. Used in this way, this bottle will last an untold length of time. The scent is in the style of Old Spice with sharp citrus, warm musk, and earthy undertones. It boasts imported essence from France blended in the USA. It does contain alcohol and is very flammable. I do not recommend splashing this. Actually, I apply it allowing only the liquid that contacts my skin when the bottle’s mouth is pressed against my skin and draw a short line of less than an inch. Just both wrists and each side of my neckline. Trust me the scent is quite strong. Read more

Love love love this smell. Brings me back to the old school barbershop memories. Works really well and leaves my face soft especially after an electric shave. I get compliments on the smell all the time. This stuff has been tried and trusted for so many years how could you go wrong? Read more

I’ve loved the smell of Pinaud Clubman since I was a child. I always associated this with the local “rear”barber shops of the 1960s, and i was pleased to find it available on Amazon. It really kills the post-shave itch/burn. But we warned that the scent is strong and may not be to your liking (there are other varieties) I live at the coast now, and I’ve found that it’s a decent insect repellant for the mosquitoes and “nosims” that torment folks here. For that purpose I dilute it 50:50 with 70% isopropyl alcohol. YMMV. Read more

...and this distinctive floral fragrance conjures up pleasant memories of being a very curious budding teen trying to leap into adulthood so I'd watch my father's every move as he methodically went through the process of his daily early morning wet-shave ritual. I remember that it seemed to take him forever to shave his face and neck, and every time starting with methodically prepping, brushing and lathering and then finally carefully shaving and that was followed by a meticulous cleaning of his prized DE razor, along with the lathering cup and brush. He would then look at himself in the mirror while stroking his cheeks and neck to check for any missed spots while reaching for the clear glass bottle of Ed Pinaud's CLUBMAN AFTER SHAVE LOTION and proceeded to splash this on and douse his face, neck and chest with a few healthy handfuls of the stuff. The beautiful and potent fragrance would fill our olfactory senses with a ramp up base of complex citrus that started with stronger notes of Citral and Citronellol but balanced with definite hints of the tart Limonene along with a dry note of Geraniol. The middle was pretty much strong notes of the increasingly ubiquitous Hydroxycitronellal that was tamed to some degree with semi-sweet notes of Linalool but then interestingly roughed up again with the decidedly heady presence of Oak Moss Extract. The dry-down was the moderately spicy...almost pine fir like...Evernia Prunastri and an earthy but soft Treemoss Extract with subtle hints of Evernia Furfuracea. I would leave that bathroom after some of it landed on me and I'd smell just like father's aftershave all day long in school...and I absolutely loved it. I reveled in it then and deeply cherish the memory today. So imagine my shear delight when I recently rediscovered this classic product...I purchased the larger 12oz size bottle, which looks almost exactly like the bottle from 40+ years ago except now it's a shatter-proof plastic instead of the thicker glass bottle it used to be packaged in. Oh well, it probably keeps costs down and is more safety-conscious in today's world. But the real test was what was inside that bottle...did the juice look the same with its trademark familiar light golden color? YES...the color and overall look is exactly the same as I remember it from 40+ years ago. So far, so good. Did it feel the same with its silky smooth texture along with its unique ability to cool and exhilarate while soothing tender skin? Well, ALMOST...it seems to be a bit lighter-bodied now with hardly any cooling ability, though it is still quite soothing and refreshing. And most importantly, did it smell the same with it's citrus and floral overtones working nicely with a heady presence of Oak Moss and Citronellol and ending with a softer, almost powdery scent? Sadly, NO...it did NOT. Though it remains true to its vintage roots and long history, It is now a shadow of its former self, sidelined by a notable lack of balanced pungency...its now WAY too Hydroxycitronellal heavy with very little essence of tree moss and virtually zero Evernia Prunastri. So while it's basically the same, it's really not if you splashed in this juice 40+ years ago like I did. It's a perfectly acceptable and wearable "old school" type of scent that's ideal for running weekend errands, poring over subpoenaed tax records or wolfing down a casual mid-afternoon lunch with a current or former lover, but do NOT expect to get the same product formulation as 40+ years ago...it's now a MUCH different, but still very recognizable after shave to that of the original. And I still LOVE IT. Read more
