Bought this after getting a 720p LCD TV. The old DVD player only had analog output and even though the picture looked BETTER, it still didn't look all that great. This COBY has the HDMI output along with it's analog and composite outputs. So the first movie I put in looked a LOT better on the new TV. The only problem I've had is deciphering the meanings of the options in the setup menus. I'm not savvy enough to know what all the options actually do, and the manual doesn't explain anything, just has screen shots of the menus. The saving grace there is that the player leaves the picture on the screen while you change things, so you get instant feedback on every change. Also, the remote buttons and menu layouts make it easy to try a bunch of different options quickly. This was a great surprise, since this was the CHEAPEST player I could find, and it gave me exactly what I wanted: Great picture and easy use. Read more
I bought two of these units, one for myself, and one for my mother. At first, we were both pleasantly surprised with the picture quality and general ease of use. What a great machine, and for such an affordable price! How sad we were when, a month from the date of purchase, my mom's dvd player just started skipping back to the beginning of the movie no matter what disc she put in, and, a mere week later, my own just stopped functioning altogether. Two units, and both in the garbage can. What a shame. Oh well, I guess you pay for what you get. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk. Read more
I bought two of these. They're surprisingly good for their prices, can play almost any discs, CD, DVD and both PAL and NTSC disc. However, one of them failed to play anything just after 3 months. And mind you, the factory warranty is 90 days, which is kind a short for electornics. So you get what you paid for. Read more
Player works fine, but came with a HUGE and ridiculous sticker on the top of it. Was able to get it off, but not the adhesive. Read more
OK, for you videophiles, not so much, perhaps. But I want to see the content and don't have to have to think I am at the AMC cinema. Coby's DVD players will play PAL as well as NTSC. My wife is from europe and has a large movie collection that she loves - in PAL format. Momma's happy, the world is a wonderful place! Read more
Great little up converting DVD player for the money...easy to hook up and play, had it playing in minutes, self explanatory remote control so very simple to use and to enjoy the features -The only complaints were it didn't supply the HDMI cable with it...Easily fixed, ordered for $15 from Amazon and Skakawack the 6'cable was delivered extremely fast and worked great...(Highly Recommended Seller) -The other problem was the remote control has to be aimed directly at the player for it to work properly which I fixed by angling the player toward my easy chair - Also thought it was just a region 1 dvd player but you can change to region 0 in the set-up menu for all Countries All in all for the price well worth the money...the complaints I had are easily fixed and I am well pleased (I stand corrected I guess items don't come with HMDI cables) Read more
I'll keep it brief in saying that within a few days of receipt of this item, it would not read DVDs. Tried a control group of DVDs, including the one that played fine the night previously, to no avail. Then magically, a day or so later, it started to work again. And then within a week, it repeated the glitch. And because of the third party return policy it isn't worth having it replaced, due to the nature of the defect. Not worth paying that shipping, not worth the time spent, not worth the original purchase. I am VERY disappointed with this purchase, and I will not buy from this manufacturer again, guaranteed.
