This case works well for elderly mother and her caregivers. We fill containers and leave directions inside the box. Each day's meds can be set out for use. The lids are very secure which might be difficult for elderly fingers but also might prevent them from accessing meds if that's a concern. Each slot opens separately which means no spilling the rest and easy to set out if assisting is necessary. The backup space is nice for the random "as needed" or different time of day pill. There is plenty of space in each slot for pills. Other types had too much room and weren't compact as this set is. This has been getting daily use for almost a year and have had no issues with it at all. The markings are still crisp to read and the lids all work as if they were new! Took a while before posting a review so we could super test this out. Bought this for my mom since she took double dose on her pills one day because she forgot what day it was. Our manual pill case wasn't cutting it anymore. This isn't super easy to load, but at least it holds 2 weeks of pills since she takes some morning and some at night. If you only have pills once per day it lasts all month. When loading, you have to just load every other slot so it's daytime, nighttime in every other slot. It has to have her phone right by it to hook up to it but it's easy to set the reminders in the app it tells you to download. Since we live with her we didn't set up the remote thing that notifies someone else that she took the pills (we looked at so many models first I think this one has that capability) but it would be useful to have that so others could monitor the pill taking. The pill drawer took a bit to learn how to get it to snap back all the way in so it would dispense the next dose or it just won't so you have to be careful of that. Much better than using the old manual pill cases though. This is definitely an upgrade. If she had to load it herself, that would NOT work though since she'd get too confused. It does lock and you have to use a key to get into it too so put those somewhere close. The bigger pills we figured out have to be pushed to the outside of each slot so they don't get stuck too so watch for that. It comes with a little tweezer set to move the pills around if you have to. That's super handy. SERIOUS DESIGN FLAWS Extremely frustrating. No manual or directions except for a few videos on YouTube. This pillbox dispenser worked for a couple weeks, then it stopped dispensing pills. 1. The little flap that has to open in order for the pills to drop into the drawer would not work. The pill box would rotate, and alert to take the medicine, but the pills wouldn't drop into the drawer. Spent fruitless hours on the app trying to troubleshoot, or to adjust, or even to reset the dang thing. Finally, I forced the little flap open. Then it wouldn't close. I left the pill box out overnight, and somehow it closed the flap and rotated to the morning dose - then the flap opened as it should, and then it opened as it should to drop the pills into the drawer. Update - the next day, it stopped dropping pills again. 2. There are inconsistent methods to wake this up. They say hold the standby button down for 3 seconds. Sometimes that works, but most of the time it doesn't. There is no telling what will wake up the machine. Sometimes if I press the cancel button six times in a row that works. Sometimes if I press the standby button 10 times in a row that works Sometimes if I just hold down the standby button that works. 3. If you need to take your pills early, theoretically, the "advance" button should dispense your pills. (Please view section 2 where there are no consistent ways to wake up this machine.) After finally waking up the machine, I press the advance button. Nothing happens. I hold down the advance button. I push it many times in a row. Nothing happens. I cannot advance the medicine. When you can FINALLY advance so that you can take a dose early (I still have no idea what magical button combination made it advance), the medicine wheel will still rotate at the time of your next alarm. So if you have to take your breakfast dose early, so you advance the unit at 7:00 a.m. to take your 9:00 a.m. dose, your 9am alarm will still rotate to the next compartment (the noon dose). So at 9:00 a.m., it will advance and dispense your noon dose - And now the machine will be off by a dose. You cannot backtrack the carousel, And you cannot lift it to reposition it, because it has no bottom and all the pills will fall out. 4. Strange hiccups and unexplained incorrect doses. I bought this for my husband. I will have it all set up and good to go. Then when I check on it the next day, it is on the wrong dose. This is incredibly frustrating, and also extremely dangerous. I got this because some of my husband's pills are so small that with the flip machines the small pills jump the track into other compartments. So I got this one that doesn't flip over to dispense. Nothing but trouble. I'm going to return it and buy an identical carousel from a different seller, to see if there's any difference. It's the only one of its kind on the market that doesn't cost 400 bucks, so fingers crossed. Anyways, I would absolutely not recommend this for anybody who has problems keeping track of their pills, what time they take their pills, or have technological difficulties because they'll have to troubleshoot this bloody thing.
