Nice bag but falls short of Columbia quality

Kindergarten son used this for one year of school and within 8 months of normal usage, light wear and tear is expected. However, the coating or exterior is not reflective of this. The outside is flaking everywhere and it is a mess. I expected more from Columbia and was told that it would take 4-6 weeks just to get a determination on warranty. Customer service also instructed me that once the package arrived, after 7-10 business days you need to call our warranty phone support for an status update on your claim. Disappointed with the quality as this is no longer a viable option due to flaking… I’ve had CHEAP everlast or jansport bags that have lasted for over a decade. Pros: -lightweight -nice styling -strong hardware I.e. zippers, straps etc -waterproofing Cons: -price vs return on investment -longevity -quality control -exterior did not last long at all… Based on this, the only option I see is this bag is great for storing something away and OCCASIONAL usage which defeats the purpose of an everyday backpack.
