Concrobium Mold Control 32 oz Spray Eliminates Prevents Mold EPA-Registered Bleach-Free Odorless VOC-Free

I used this Concrobium to kill the mildew smell inside a circa 1960s drop front type desk with cubbies and drawers inside. I did it in two stages. In the first stage, I applied it with a paintbrush to all the bare wood and wiped off the excess to clean it, and much grime did come off. I used cotton rags, cut up from t-shirts,instead of paper towels. I removed and treated the drawers first, two large ones, and five small ones from the inside. After doing the first stage cleaning, I let them dry and then followed with a second coating to treat the cleaned wood. I was generous with the product, but was sure to wipe off the excess so as not to over soak the wood(which I probably did anyway), and so there would be no powdery residue left from the product. I approached the desk cabinet itself in the same way. One coat and wipe down to clean, let it dry, and then a second coat and wipe down to kill the mildew smell. I brushed it on all the bare wood surfaces, including the back and underneath of the desk, inside the large drawer openings, and inside each cubby, and each cubby drawer opening, then wiped off the excess. I left everything to dry for a couple of days, even though it didn't need that long, because the product stated that it actually kills the mold during drying process. The wood was very dry afterward and needed moisturizing/conditioning. I brushed on a generous layer(and wiped off the excess) of "Howard's Feed-N-Wax" wood conditioner which I bought at Ace Hardware. I let it sit a couple of days, then wiped it off any further remaining excess. Fyi, I used way too much I because I had to wipe it down several times with days in between before all the excess came to the surface wiped and the wood has some over saturated spots of conditioner...so I dodged a bullet of comprising the wood integrity by over conditioning... The results were so rewarding. There is virtually no mildew smell left within the desk at all. I am using the desk as well, so it is not being left closed up. The desk had been stored in a garage for 18 years. It didn't have visible mildew but smelled horribly. I believe the product was successful because instead of spraying it on, I used a brush to apply it which gave better coverage, and deeper absorption. Also I brushed it on twice. First time to clean it, and second time to treat it. And because I was sure to wipe the wood down both times afterwards which removed a lot of grime on to the rags. Wiping down will also assure there will be no white residue remaining as the manufacturer warned in their instructions. In my opinion, simply spraying on the product would not have been enough coverage to get deep enough into the wood and kill the mildew for this particular desk. The wood felt very dry after I treated it but the desk already needed conditioning. I probably used more of both products than was ideal, particularly the conditioner because I haven't worked with furniture before. I am so glad to have found this product that is safe to use, has no chemical smell and can be used on wood. I was very fond of the desk as my mom used it regularly when I was growing up and I wanted to keep it after she passed. Before trying it myself, I actually hired a refinisher to clean it but he couldn't remove the smell. He said he didn't know of any product for removing mildew on furniture. Works really well on mold. Doesn’t have a lingering smell. Was able to wipe off the mold and did not have to leave it sitting very long. We had mold over our door way from condensation in the Summer. It took it and the discoloration right off of the painted sheet rock. Read more

This stuff is a godsend for me. I live in an older home near the ocean, so it's damp here, and I perennially have to deal with mold. I hate scented products, which can make me as sick as the mold itself, so to be able to remove the mold with zero VOCs or added scents -- perfect. Yesterday I removed ugly black mold from the grout around my windows. Spray it on, let it dry, come back with a narrow stiff brush moistened by Concrobrium, and the mold gives up the ghost. It’s an okay product. It does help with light mold, but I didn’t see a huge difference on tougher spots. Easy to spray and doesn’t have a strong smell, which I liked. It works best for maintenance or small areas, but not a miracle fix. Read more

Doesn’t Live Up to the Hype I bought this with high hopes based on the glowing feedback, but my experience has been disappointing. I tried it directly on visible mold spots and honestly, it didn’t make much of a difference. For something marketed as a mold control spray, I expected at least some noticeable change. What I liked: 1. The spray bottle is easy to handle, with a fine mist that covers surfaces evenly. 2. It dries clear without leaving a strong chemical odor, which makes it pleasant to use indoors. Things to keep in mind: 1. Don’t expect it to remove visible mold stains—it’s more of a preventative coating than a cleaner. You may still need to scrub or use another product for stain removal. 2. Results aren’t immediate; effectiveness may only be seen over time as it helps stop regrowth rather than erasing what’s already there. 3. Works best on hard, non-porous surfaces—if you’re dealing with porous materials, it may not penetrate enough to help. 4. The product needs to sit undisturbed after application; wiping it down right away will reduce its effectiveness. 5. Best results seem to come when you treat an area after thoroughly cleaning and drying it first—using it on top of existing dirt or heavy mold doesn’t work well. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a product to kill and prevent mold from coming back, this could have a role. But if you need something that will visibly clean and eliminate mold on the spot, this isn’t it. Read more
