I’m still stunned. I can’t believe how beautiful this plant is and that it came in the mail. I lost my first beaucarnia that I had for over 30 years, when I moved. Since it’s a lifetime commitment I hesitated to get another one. I’m very glad that I did. I feel like I was sent a very special new friend. The ponytail palm came expertly packed and arrived safely despite winter temperatures. It came in a decorative pot, which really makes the price worth it. These plants get quite large, so be prepared. Unlike my last one, this one has been topped and has three separate branches so I imagine it’s going to grow quite differently. This palm arrived in pretty bad shape. The box was pretty flimsy. It had been crushed to the point of being opened. Someone along the way taped it back together, but there were leaves sticking out from the sides and top and caught in the tape. It looks like it would have been a beautiful plant had it not been that most of the leaves were broken off or crushed. I have bought many plants from Costa Farms and they have aways, in the past, arrived in good shape. I’m so disappointed. This plant should have been double boxed at the very minimum. I’m not going to return it because it has been through enough stress already. I will see if I can save it with a lot of TLC and time, but I don’t know, I’m not a miracle worker. :-( 12/22/25 UPDATE: There was no saving it. It was rotten at the trunk. All of the leaves fell off and when I took it out of the pot the bottom of the trunk was stinky, fishy smelling mush. I’m going to have to return this pile of stink to get my money back. This Bonsai tree arrived very well packed, and the soil was moist. Once shipped, it went UPS 2-day which was reassuring. I was waffling between three and four stars for the below reasons. I needed a very specific variety of Bonsai (Ficus Ginseng) for a gift and couldn’t find a healthy one in any of my local nurseries or stores. I didn’t realize until after ordering that it was the grower’s choice on which variety I would be receiving, and the purchase was non-returnable. I reached out to Customer service who were amazing and provided me the farm’s customer service number. The farm was too busy to take my call, and I was forced to leave a message. The frustrating part was they finally called me back at 5:50 AM on the day the tree was being delivered! (Grrr) At this point, if it was the wrong species I was stuck with a plant I didn’t want. Also, at 5:50 AM there was NO WAY I was answering the phone… Another three star reason – the size. The listing states a 1-year-old 10” tree. I received something much smaller. (See photos) I landed on 4-stars for these reasons though. 1.) The tree is the species I requested in my phone voicemail. Is it because they got my message and specifically shipped it? I’ll never know but I’m so glad it worked out! 2.) This little tree is extremely healthy! The leaves are all shiny and a dark green. 3.) First of all, I am highly impressed with how well this plant was packaged. This was the first plant I ever ordered online and i certainly had my doubts, however this ponytail palm arrived perfectly healthy and looks great straight out of the pot. It’s the perfect size and looks adorable in my home. The real win is how low maintenance it is. It does well indoors and doesn’t need frequent watering, which makes it ideal if you love plants but sometimes forget they exist. Somehow, it still looks great.
