Update: I ordered a second 28 oz box. That box leaked inside the Amazon delivery box. What a mess -- because I didn't notice it until I pulled it out of the Amazon box and by then I had wheat particles all over the place. That's like having bug-attracting sand all over your kitchen. Original review: I love original Cream of Wheat. Makes a good, fast, reasonably healthy meal or snack (assuming it doesn't have something nefarious in it that hasn't been made public). It's also a food that is good to have around when someone is ill. Sometimes I like it plain (original), sometimes I like a little extra--fruit, syrup, or brown sugar. I couldn't find the original version in single-serve packets, otherwise I'd have preferred to buy the single-serve packets rather than the 28 oz box. The box I received was fully sealed all around. Which is good as I'm not a fan of bugs. It was a box filled with millions of teeny-tiny wheat particles. The problem with the box is the push-in, forever open spout. That's a big NO. There should be a metal (or plastic) and closable pour spout, like what's on my Morton's Salt container. Instead, unless I and others are extremely careful, there are wheat particles all over my kitchen. Read more

I have to cook for someone on a soft food diet after oral surgery. Cream of Wheat is perfect for my needs. I used to cook it by boiling the liquid first but now I start with cold water. A 4:1 ratio is about right (e.g., 4 cups water per 1 cup farina) cooked for at least 5 minutes on low heat. This is a quick meal and you can make it with milk, broth or water. Add a whole or scrambled egg for some extra protein. Enjoy! Read more
