This Hippo is the cutest thing and so squishable. It immediately returns to shape, so I do not need to worry. The way you turn this on and off is by squishing (or tapping really, I just like how this nightlight feels) the head, which is an amazing feature and reminds me of the old style alarm clocks where you can slam them to hit snooze...or just touch lights. Placed on my nightstand alongside my glasses and cellphone, I am able to easily reach and push it on or off when I need to use it. No more lighting of the cellphone or the blind walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. There are 2 settings which are low and high, but it is not bright enough to blind. The USB cord is for charging, but the hippo does not need to remain plugged in. My nightstand has USB outlets, and is also connected to a surge protector that has usb options, so I can leave the usb plugged in with no issue, but in an emergency, it is good to have something that can stay lit up that is not a cell phone. This does not provide a whole lot of lighting in a given space, but is merely meant for decoration or as a proper nightlight (especially to benefit the young or the elderly) in illuminating a bedroom space at night. The included USB-C cable (no adapter box) charges this up quickly and efficiently. To use, you just have to enable the switch on the bottom of the device to the ON position, and then while sitting upright, tap the top part of the penguin's head to activate 💡. What's neat is that there is a second level (stronger intensity) of light that is displayed when tapping a second time on the penguin's head (see video). This nightlight comes in a pink box and is cute enough to be given as a gift. The hippo is made of really soft silicone. You can keep squeezing and squishing it and it just goes back to normal. I don't see any parts sticking out of it so I would feel ok to let a child use it. The chick on top is a little harder as it feels like it is solid and not hollow and due to this is does not light up like the hippo does. Personally, I think it was not necessary to add that but it is still very cute with it sitting on the hippo's head. The light is quite soft and dim, perfect for a night light. The low setting is low enough to be able to sleep through. The higher setting is bring enough to be able to see enough if your child needs to get up in the middle of the night to get around. It is not bright enough to read as the listing says. You probably could if it is really close to your book but it still would be strenuous on your eyes trying to read in such low light. The light is not bright enough to light things up, it is strictly a nightlight. My only issue is that when I am charging it, there is no indicator. The little fox is super cute. It is in great condition and works well. It's quiet to turn on and off and to adjust the brightness. I like this because if my grandchildren are sleeping, I can turn on the light without disturbing them. I have a similar light in my bedroom and use it to turn on some soft light without waking my husband. The kids can easily turn it on and off themselves by tapping or squeezing. Tapping multiple times will make the light brighter until it turns off. There is also a main switch on the bottom that can turn it off. It recharges quickly. There's a cable included. The charge lasts awhile. It helps that there is a timer that can be used to turn it off. Overall, I really like it. I think this is a fun way to have a little light for adults, teens, or children.
