These bottoms are great. The little strings on the side tie and untie, but they are not a functional strap or string of the bottoms. Fits very well for me - I am 5’3 and 122 pounds. It is a full coverage cut enough on the bum, not not too full coverage. These are just as comfortable as any expensive brand name bathing suite, and they fit well and the elastic band makes sure they fit and stay in place. On me, the waist is more a mid rise cut.
