These eggs were a gift for a seven-year-old girl, and it was a fun experience. A four-and-a-half star rating would be most fitting in my opinion. The basic process of egg hatching was as follows: All six eggs were initially placed in a single plastic bin (10" x 10") with very warm water. The depth of the water should be about 4 inches. The eggs have two small openings on one end that allow water to seep in. When first placed in water, the eggs floated. Holding them under the surface of the water while tilting the openings upward allowed air bubbles to escape, enabling the eggs to sink. Within ten hours, the first egg cracked with a little bit of a unicorn showing, and three more eggs were cracked and beginning to open by the next morning. Later that day, one unicorn suddenly popped completely out of its egg. Several eggs remained partially open for three days. The last two eggs did not finish opening until the fourth or fifth day. Those last two eggs contained unicorns with one or more curved legs. When first taken out of the water, the unicorns were about four inches long, plump, and a bit water logged. They then get smaller but mostly change in positive ways over a period of hours or a day after being removed from the water: 1. Their facial features improve! At first, two unicorns seemed to have no eyes. As it turned out, their swollen manes were covering their eyes. Within hours, a little shrinking allowed the eyes to become visible. 2. Initially, three unicorns could not stand on their own. In one case, this was due to its legs being a little shorter in back than in front. After being out of the water for half a day (dry climate), the legs evened out and stiffened so that it could stand. 3. The colors brighten up as the unicorns dry. 4. The unicorns get smaller as they dry. Placing them back in the water is an option to regain some of their size. They started out around 4 inches in length. Three days out of the water in a dry climate, the unicorns shrank to sizes ranging from 1.5 inches to 2.25 inches long. They are still cute little toys for pretend play. Pros: 1. The unicorn hatching process is entertaining over a period of days. 2. Even when wet, the unicorns are easy for a child to hold and handle. From other reviews, I was concerned that they would be slippery or slimy. However, that was not the case. The unicorns have a slightly rough surface making them unlikely to slip out of one's hand. 3. No matter their size, the unicorns are cute little toys for kids to play with. Cons: 1. It takes a lot of patience and may get boring for kids as they wait for the hatching process to finish. 2. Two unicorns had rather thin and curved legs and neither could stand on its own. After drying for a day or two, those unicorns could be easily propped up if allowed to slightly lean on something--even one of the more stable unicorns. SOLUTION: Placing small balls of putty or playdoh under their feet (hoofs) enables them to stand up. As long as a child understands that the process will take a few days, it is a fun gift for young children. Read more

Very colorful and fun to do Read more
These were fairly underwhelming. While cute and perfect for an Easter basket, the fun kind of stopped there. It took them *days* to expand to their full size and they have a very weird slimy squishy texture. Half of them couldn’t stand on their own once in their expanded state. Once you take them out of the water they (slowly) start shrinking, quite unevenly. They’re now forgotten about in the garden somewhere. TL;DR: Cute but I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. Read more
