The shorts material is superior; it is durable, washes well, minimal wrinkles, no iron needed, soft, has stretch, stitching is top of the line , often double stitched, belt hoops will never rip off, and length is past knees, can fold up as desired. These "shorts" are very well made and fit just like my Democracy jeans in a size 6, that I love (for reference, I am 5'5', 145 lbs). The only slightly negative is that they are a bit longer than expected; they go just below my knee, and unlike the pictures they do not look good rolled up. I haven't decided if I will get them hemmed or not. They are an interesting length; inbetween long shorts and capris, which maybe in not a bad thing? Most capris, which typically hit mid calf and are not very flattering, so I do like just below the knee better. So I will keep these. Nice, heavy cotton. Comfortable attractive cut. 12 1/2" inseam w/ cuff reaches just over the top of my knee - just the length I wanted. (5'-9" height) Long enough, substantial enough to feel suitably dressed for running around town or a late afternoon summer gathering. Sturdy enough for chores. The mesh liner doesn't improve my figure in any way (unlike some reviewers), but it seems to help the shorts maintain their fit and shape. Maybe I should have ordered a size down, the same way one does when ordering NYDJ pants. But I like the slightly loose yet not baggy fit of these shorts in my usual size. To answer the question about the elastic mesh, for which I received contradictory answers before ordering, the mesh is the inner most layer - across the top of the abdomen and lining the inside of the waistband. In other words, if you don't tuck in a shirt or wear very large underwear :->, the mesh will be in contact with your skin. Since I do have a contact sensitivity, I find that tucking in a longer, light cotton camisole eliminates the itching caused by the mesh. Another option would be NYDJ shorts instead, where the elastic layer is encased in other fabrics. But I prefer the drape of the fabric and the longer inseam in the Democracy shorts to the NYDJ 11" inseam and fabric. Read more

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I wanted a nice pair of Bermuda shorts that would provide some compression at the belly Material quality: The material quality on these were really good Size: I ended up having to size down to a 14. Color: The color is dark and nicely saturated. They do have a label stating to wash separately before you wear. Value for money: These are a bit expensive, but I wanted to get something that I knew would work well and I’ve bought this brand before.
