I use this regularly when out in the elements, whether skiing or sailing. Does the job, protects the lips and broader exposed face. Reasonable consistency in both hot and cold weather. Sturdy tin, no leaks. No plastic. It does take two hands, though. Read more

Fellow hikers clued me in to this brand and I’m so glad they did. I have sensitive skin and some sunblock brands sting my eyes and cause me to break out. This stuff doesn’t! And it works well, protecting my face from the sun. Read more

On the hunt for a skin protector that could stand up to the rigors of a family ski trip, I had two criteria: effectiveness and portability. My child's skin is notably sensitive, a fact we learned the hard way on our last winter excursion when the biting cold left harsh burns on his cheeks. This time, I was determined to find a solution that was not only powerful against the cold but also convenient to carry, whether in my purse or a pocket, for easy reapplication whenever necessary. That's when I discovered this gem of a product. First and foremost, the size of this skin protector is ideal. It's the perfect companion for on-the-go needs, easily fitting into a small bag or jacket pocket, ensuring that it's always within reach for quick touch-ups on the slopes. This convenience factor alone makes it a standout, but its performance is where it truly shines. The protective barrier it forms against the cold is impressive, providing a shield that kept my child's skin safe from the harsh elements, a marked improvement from our previous experience. Not only does it protect, but it also nourishes, leaving our skin feeling soft and moisturized, even in the face of freezing temperatures and biting winds. Another aspect worth noting is its scent—or, more accurately, the lack thereof. It's almost odorless, with just a hint of sweetness, making it a pleasure to use without the overwhelming fragrance that often accompanies skin care products. The formula is also non-sticky, absorbing quickly without leaving any greasy residue, which is a significant plus when you're out and about. I've learned my lesson: I'll never head into a cold environment without this essential guard again Read more

I work outdoors in the winter, several hours a day, in snow, with temps from -15°F to 30°F. My skin gets so irritated from the cold wind and sun, but this product has really helped with both. Given it's a cream/balm and not a liquid, I'm not as sure how much I need to get the stated SPF, but so far I haven't gotten burned. It had zinc in it, but it's actually a combination sunscreen of mineral and chemical, which I'm ok with. I have other combination sunscreens that leave a white cast, but I didn't notice this one did. To be fair, I am quite pale though. The product is in a small container, so I use this as my first layer of the day in a relatively generous application, then I top up with regular face sunscreen after a couple hours. If I reapply with the Dermatone, it seems a waste since the Vaseline-base of the product sticks around for a while (which is what offers great wind protection). So I just top up with regular SPF. If you were doing an activity that caused rubbing on the face due to gear or whatever, the product is easy enough to reapply, the texture just can get quite glossy/slick. I have tried reapplying it outdoors, where the product had been outside with me for hours, and it applied fine too. The good thing about the small size is that it's easy to carry on your person. The packaging is also secure, so no worries about jostling it around. Overall, love the product, just wish it came in a bigger size. Read more

Nice product. I keep it my pocket during winter hikes in New England. It stays soft enough to use in bitter cold temps. Price point is a little high, though, and I’ll probably look for an alternative. Read more
