This chapstick is the best preventative for cold sores. Prior to finding this lip balm, I was using many expensive over the counter remedies that never seemed to actually reduce the cold sore frequency, duration or intensity. I use this product daily and keep one by my bed, in my purse, and in my car. Since using it a few times a day for a year, I have yet to get a cold sore like I used to. If I do start to develop one, I use the lip balm every few hours and the cold sore never fully develops. I highly recommend this product if you are looking to find a preventative treatment and to reduce the duration/intensity of cold sores. **This is seriously a life saver during the cold and flu season and winter time. You will finally be free of the dreading a cold sore around the holidays Read more

I've been using DocoShield Lip Balm with Lysine for a number of years. Before that, I used the Doco Lip Balm without the Lysine. I do prefer it with Lysine. My lips are NEVER dry anymore. I suffer from acute bouts of oral thrush due to my dentures and implants. One of the symptoms is cracked skin at the corners of my mouth. Doco is the ONLY product that soothes my aching lips and cracked skin. I love it. HIGHLY recommend. It was recommended to me by one of my clients. I have now given it to my adult son, who loves it. I read where some of the reviewers received the flawed product - the lip balm either fell apart upon use or did not have a smooth consistency. I personally have never received a flawed shipment of DocoShield. Those who did receive a flawed shipment, perhaps you should reorder. I truly never have had a bad batch. Read more

OK so I've been using this for a while now. I got it back in September and it's August now. I still have no idea if it's actually helping with preventing cold sores. I haven't had one yet (I usually get them once a year so it'll be soon if it's going to happen) but I do want to say that I pick this out to take with me every day (I have a tonnnn of different types of lip balm lol) because I love it so much. It has a nice kind of vanilla-y scent and it's very moisturizing and glides nicely on my lips. Just be careful not to put on too much because there is a white cast. But you won't need much. Im also glad that it comes in a pack of 3 because I carry it with me everywhere I go so I've either lost or washed several lol. It gets soft easy when it's in your pocket and (like all twist up lip balms) it will start to screw upwards under the lid. So if it's hot out and it's been in your pocket be sure to screw it back down before applying it. I've had one completely break off because I didn't do that. One way to help prevent that is to put it in a tiny zip up pouch and put that in your pocket (if you like to carry it in your pocket) so that it protects rhe twist up part from.veing manipulated through being rubbed around in your pocket. I still get cold sores whilst using this, but they are smaller and do not last very long. The balm itself isn't as moisturizing as other brands. The scent in delightful. Read more

This is the only medicated lip balm that works for me. I have a severe reaction to citrus. When ever I eat raw citrus fruit; especially pineapple I get a lip sore (cold sore). If there is a small weakness/abrasion on the spot where my skin meets my lip the citrus acid will enter it and BANG a cold sore forms. Not just a simple cold sore but a long lasting compound scabbing sore. The only thing that helps heal is Abreva but I have to apply it every 30 minutes till I feel it healing which takes a few days. It is also very small with a big price. I have been looking for a prevention solution. I tried other lip balms but they only dried out my lips and I had to reapply every 20 minutes or my lips will start to over dry and start to peel or crack opening me up for any future sores. Then I found DocoShield. THIS is the only product that works for me. I has protected my lips. Does not dry out my lips and I can stop using it if I want and start if I'm feeling a bit insecure. It just works for me. PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE THIS PRODUCT!!!! Read more

Docosanol is one of the newer over-the-counter ingredients proven to shorten the duration of herpes cold sores, which are the ones that pop up on your outer lips and start with a tingling sensation to warn you. (The ones inside your mouth have a different cause, and are called canker sores.) Docosanol is the same ingredient in Abreva. Lysine is also known to be effective. This lip balm is the only one I've found found with both ingredients. I would have preferred an unscented lip balm but at least this one is pleasant. If you suffer with these blisters, you should also ask your doctor for a prescription for Valacyclovir pills, to be taken at the first tingle of a new sore. Fairly inexpensive since it's available as a generic. You can try downloading the GoodRx app to find a better price and bring that to your pharmacy. Also, otc lysine supplement pills from any health food store or Amazon, at least 1000 mg per day, and an anti-inflamatory like Advil. Hit it with all of these and you may be able to stop a sore before it progresses to open blisters. It can drastically shorten recovery time and lessen the size of the sore. Lysine is cheap enough that you can take it every day to prevent future sores, or at least drastically lessen the severity. Hope this helps! Read more
