I’ve been using it daily for several weeks now, and feel confident enough to finally leave a review. I’ll start with what I like so you don’t have to scroll as much, but the details of my situation and dog are provided at the bottom of this review. This is a solid product. It’s lightweight, yet durable. I’m not a stitching expert, although I can tell good stitching from shoddy; and this safety lead is stitched quite well, which is very important considering its purpose. The carabiner appears to be of significantly better materials and quality than similar products. The slide-locking bar on the carabiner is a huge plus for me. The size of the carabiner is just right, and it’s designed with the dog’s comfort in mind. Having two anchor attachment points for either a hook-type latch or seatbelt buckle is fantastic. I mostly use the latter, but there are times when the other option is necessary. This thing has already performed its duty honorably on a number of occasions. The first was the day I received it, which was entirely my fault. I forgot to shorten the length, and also accidentally rolled my vehicle’s windows all the way down. Now, keep in mind that my dog is in the early stages of being trained properly. So, when she saw another dog as we parked in my brother’s driveway, she didn’t allow the opportunity to be wasted. One moment, she was sitting and looking peacefully out the window as I turned off the ignition. However, three seconds later, after unfastening my own seatbelt and stepping out of the vehicle, I was stunned to find that she was already outside waiting for me; her entire body hanging outside the rear window, dangling against the door’s exterior. She wasn’t injured, nor did she look all that uncomfortable, really. She was simply equal parts surprised and embarrassed. But she was still fastened securely to this lead, and the lead was secure within the seatbelt holder. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve already received my money’s worth. Backstory: I recently adopted a two-year-old, half-German Shepherd mix from the animal shelter. She weighs around 70lbs at the moment and is incredibly strong. Unfortunately, she had never been leash trained or socialized with other animals. As a result, she used to pull with all her might on walks (and on a car safety leash as it turns out), especially if she saw another dog. When that happened, she would (and sometimes still does) somehow find even more strength, putting all she’s worth into closing the distance to greet the other animal. So, I knew we needed something like this for more than just added protection in case of a collision. It prevents her from jumping out of the window (when the length is properly adjusted), crawling into the front seat, or from trying to jump out of the vehicle as soon as the door is open. In summary, I’m a big fan of this product. My name is Tyler, and I approve this message….and product. Read more

This is exactly what I was looking for (and likely what you are as well, if you are reading this.) For any dog under 50lbs or so this is perfect as a vehicle crash restraint in concert with a good chest harness that incorperates a metal D-Ring. I would not recommend this for large breed dogs, but the model with the stronger aluminum caribiner should be fine up to 100lbs in my opinion. In my mind its not the strap that is the weak point but its single connection point to the harness and its Zinc carabiner construction, If you go to the model with the Aluminium construction you have a significantly stronger connection. For a heavy breed I would look for a harness that was multipoint. In any event no matter the size of the dog, this would certainly restrain them as far as to keep them from leaving the scene under their own power, I'm just referring to restraint in a head-on collision situation. The same company that makes another nearly identical model that has an aircraft aluminium carabiner... Aluminium is nearly 10x stronger than Zinc! See the table below and you will appreciate the difference that would be in yor favor in a collision. The mechanical properties of zinc are tabulated below. ... Mechanical Properties. Properties Metric Imperial Tensile strength 37 MPa 5370 psi Aluminum 6061-T6; 6061-T651 Physical Properties Metric English Ultimate Tensile Strength 310 MPa 45000 psi Tensile Yield Strength 276 MPa 40000 psi Turning back to this product, It (and its counterpart with the aluminium biner) are perfect for what I wanted. Small enough to roll up and fit into the zipper pocket on my backpack. It actually came with a nice faux silk drawstring bag in which to store it, If you would like to keep it in a seat pocket or a glove box. It will connect to either a standard Seat Belt connection OR an integral child saftey restraint point that are located in the crevice or on the back of many rear seats in modern vehicles. This enables you to anchor your pet so they don't become a missile in a colission. It is length adjustible in the same way as a backpack strap and has a spring loaded effect to absorb forward energy generated from a sudden stop or from your pet trying to pull against it. I have not taken a knife to mine to try and cut it, but it seems extremely sturdy and the exterior shell is a ballistic nylon while it appears to have something like a kevalar stretch core similar to a tow rope in it...that allows it to absorb some of the force. The connection points for the seat end are stamped steel and as stong as any seatbelt or car saftey seat device and the connection point for the harness end is either a zinc alloy or aircraft aluminium carabiner depending on the model you purchase. I will be returning the one I purchased and buying one with the aircraft aluminium carabiner... I suggest you purchase the other model as well...
