Great product! Just got finished installing it about 20 minutes ago. I was told by the dealership it was going to cost between $1500-$2000 to fix. I haven't had Heat in 4 years! Total project time was about 2 hours. As someone else pointed out on here, it doesn't tell you in the directions that the doors come off the post (but they do). Make sure you do all your cutting before you take out the old doors, this way it will catch all the plastic you have to cut. Also your motor might not line up properly when you go to put it back on. Get a wire lead and hook it up to the battery to get the motor to move. DO NOT try and turn it manually or with a screw driver, otherwise you will have bigger problems on your hands. go here for calibration instructions once your are done[..] Once again GREAT PRODUCT! 5 stars! The product is solid, well constructed, and performs great. The foil tape provided is thick enough, bonds well, and seals great. My only gripe is that the instructions are lacking for the novice user. Better color photos and procedure descriptions would make this product stellar. My installation I used a dremel with a thick cut off wheel held at a 45 angle instead of parallel to the air box. Reason for this is when the cut piece is replaced it wont push through into the airbox easily and should stop against the angle and make for an easier time installing the tape for the seal. I also used one of the motor screws and drove it into the middle of the box making a small hole but also an easier attachment point to manipulate it into place. Then remove the screw and patch the hole. Voila. Read more

Instructions are pretty lame but you can go on youtube and watch videos of other guys doing the repair ie making the cuts. I've researched this for weeks and although you lose the "dual zone" climate control, who really cares! I've never owned a dual zone in my life and don't see a need to now. The wife will have to put up with my temp controls haha yea right.Anyway, it works. PS I've also figured out the "recirculation" door is broken too. Codes 52 54 56. both blend doors and recirc door. The recirc door is to the right of the blend doors and you can either stick a "stick" in there and push it closed or pull it towards you and zip tie it off. You lose the ability to recirc either way but hey, its free and saves you thousands of $$$!PSS i bought the "walnut hollow" hot knife here on amazon and it worked great to cut the plastic. Took about 1 hour for entire fix since i'm anal Read more

After reading the other reviews I agree to most,,, this product needs to be redesigned, Dorman should ge on the stick with this one, It arrived asembled and it must be disaembled to install, the 2 doors/ flaps are extremely hard to slide off , I had to rest the asembly in my bench vise gently without damaging it and then tap the shaft out with a long thin rod, I then had to SAND down the shft , full legnth with medium sand paper enough to let the 2 doors/ flaps slide back on with only SOME resistance,,the shaft has 2 flat sides to it so the doors wont pivot or spin around it, FURTHERMORE the great Dorman Idea about the Metal pin fell out of its hole Duh??? It is too loose that it does not stay in the hole, I put the pin into my bench vice lightly and tapped it to the side to bend it very slightly,, then tapped it bck into the hole in the side of the shaft, so resistance holds it in, DUHH??, it now is tight,,, I will contact the seller about this too,, I will add to this after I install it in the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with dual zone controls that will be 1 zone after.//////// UPDATE/// I installed this retro fit item and it worked great, be VERY careful removing the actuator motor without breaking anything, wigle it off, then I used a Dremel cutting wheel to cut the heater box in the RIGHT areas along with a hack saw blade,,,Do NOT get close to the Airconditioner core on the right,, The bottem edge is on just by a Tounge and Grove slot and after cutting the top and Left and Right sides it comes out easy,, DO NOT accidentally cut into the wires for the motor,,USE THE INSTRUCTIONS PICTURES OR YOUTUBE VIDEOS,, Pull the old white plastic piece out with a pliers, then remove the closest door then cut the center divider wall out and be carefull at its bottom where the new axle shaft will be still SUPPORTED at its center,,then remove the far door, all were broken,, Then install the new far door ,then the new shaft thru the the box into the close door , along the center divider area then into the far door and the far door slides onto the very very far small shaft of the original Passenger side motor,, all still spins easy,, then to test it, put the motor on the outer end of the new shaft,, keep the little metal pin between the 2 plastic "stops" ,, Then plug in the wire ,start the Jeep and TEST the movement of the new doors, ONLY the Driver side control will work both doors,, ALL OK? then remove the motor again and reposition the original plastic pannel that you cut out at first, the metalic tape is like tin foil and works great, cut a bunch of short lengths ad make it air tight,, reassemble all back as a finished unit and you are all set !!! I did mine in 25'F outside temps and took almost 2 hrs because it was the 1st time,,, now as an EXPERT I can do it in an hr,, I took picture to show the Jeep Grand Cherokee's owner and he was thrilled. If you have the blend door problem and don't mind loosing the dual zone feature, this product is for you! The biggest part of the work is cutting the plastic of the air duct of your car; I did that using a hot knife which I made myself using a soldering iron. Once you have done that, it is easy to install. Indeed, the blend doors fit tightly on the axle, so I too recommend some sanding ánd lubricating the axle with oil or silicone spray. Once I did that, I could easily push the axle into the installed blend doors by hand. I would not recommend hammering! With respect to loosing the dual zone capability: indeed it is not mentioned in the product description or in the instructions. But the passenger can still turn his temperature knob and have the impression that he can adjust the temperature: placebo effect! Read more

I've installed a few Jeep blend door repair kits, and they used to cost over $100 from other sources. This Dorman kit is half that cost, fits great and is simple to install. It's quick, easy and effective. I'll definitely use this kit the next time I have a Jeep with this problem. Read more
