I think of these like tires on a car, when worn down, they lose effectiveness, and then safety suffers. I always manage to wear one tip out faster than the others on my quad cane, but when that happens, I still replace all four. They aren't terribly expensive, and it's much easier to keep them all at top performance. I have a McKesson quad cane with a small base and these Drive brand tips fit perfectly.
