A dentist I follow on social media recommended this tongue scraper. Throughout my life, no one has ever told me about a tongue scraper. I was thought to brush my tongue after brushing my teeth. I didn’t know that brushing the tongue actually does not remove dirt and bacteria. My tongue has been white for a long time instead of pink. I started using this tongue scraper less than a month ago and my tongue has become more pink. I see that it removes a lot of gunk from my tongue and helps keep my breath fresh. It is light weight, easy to use, easy to clean, and it is of good quality. It is a compact size and good for an adult mouth. It should also be good for older kids. Tongue scraping? In a hectic life of running to get the basics accomplished, one more chore seemed like some new age excess. Until more out of curiosity, I sent for this tool to give it a try. I recall during childhood, when doctor visits and checkups lasted more than 3 minutes, the first thing a doctor did after perhaps weighing you and someone taking your blood pressure, was to have you open your mouth and say AHHH. Besides looking for inflammation in your throats, they observed the condition of your tongue, which gave evidence to your overall health since it's the gateway to your GI track. Being the first step in the journey of your digestion, all food begins being processed here and your mouth has more bacteria than the entire human population on the planet. Most of them are necessary and beneficial. But imbalances can occur or due to superficial oral care, food particles can promote excess populations of some types of bacteria. Bacteria eat and excrete as well and their waste products can result in unpleasant odors and even build up of toxins. A tongue scraper removes these accumulations very effectively, much more so than your redirected toothbrush will. At times I noticed a white coating on my tongue as opposed to a healthy pink. Regular tongue scraping has completely eliminated that condition. Besides having more peace of mind that my breath is more clean in social situations, my mouth has never felt cleaner. I love this scraper in particular because of the substantial handles which enable you to hold it securely during use without slipping. Perhaps it's like using those dental floss tools as opposed to unraveling two feet of floss, winding it around your fingers cutting off blood supply and then inserting fingers, with their own unique bacteria into your mouth. (Yes, I hate producing more plastic waste as well with those disposable tools! A non issue with this reusable stainless steel scraper) One other benefit that I'm not sure I've consciously observes, is that without your taste buds being coated, you might even experience more intense flavors in foods. One other curious but true benefit, is that using it makes you more conscious of your health maintenance and hygiene and strangely gives you a feeling of self mastery, strange as that may sound. I've had several types of tongue cleaners and, after reading all of the wonderful reviews about this one, I wanted to try one out for myself. My opinion in a nutshell?... It works as intended. What do I mean? Well, it's a good product that does what it's supposed to. Compared to the other types and brands that I've tried in the past, I found this one to be a viable alternative though not nearly as amazing as others have claimed. I wonder if many of the other stellar reviews have come from people who have never used a tongue cleaner before. Specifically, I found this product to be effective, although I could critique that the design hardly seems to improve it's performance versus other types of cleaners I have used. The handles provide a good grip and the stainless steel band does it's part to clean. A good product but not good enough for me to rave that it's "great".
