Exceeded my expectations
We bought this for the twin bed in our guest room and we both tried it out (separately, it is small). We both found it to be heavenly: no stiff backs, shoulders, or hips and no headache from chemical smells. Since The Latex Factory doesn't make topper covers, we bought one from subrtex here on Amazon and it fit perfectly and made handling the topper easier without out worrying about tearing the soft latex. We bought this one to spruce up the sagging guest room mattress (Sealy Posturepedic Pillowtop) The topper on top of the pillowtop does make the bed a bit high so we will get deeper pocketed sheets to replace the old ones - they were due for replacement anyway. Based on some reviews I was nervous about the smell, the quality, and fitness for purpose of this latex mattress topper (I bought the soft 3 inch twin size topper) but none of these issues was a problem. TLDR: I am super-sensitive to odors, chemicals and fragrances and I have to be vigilant about anything I bring into my house because if I make a mistake I could be sick for a very long time after the offending item has been removed from my home. There was absolutely no problem here. I actually stuck my nose deep into the latex and sniffed hard. The only scent I could detect was the very faintest hint of sweet bread. It is entirely possible I imagined that because I think the raw latex kind of resembles bread dough in color and texture (but, unlike bread, it isn't sticky and it does spring back after you press on it.) The topper fit snuggly into the 3" twin size topper cover made by subrtex that I also bought here on Amazon. It did take a little careful coaxing but once it was on it fit perfectly. Some reviewers said that this brand (The Latex Factory) runs a bit firmer than most of the others so I got the soft one instead of a medium; I was not disappointed. We wanted it soft enough to cradle sore bones but not so soft that you sink into it and can't get out. (Getting older is not for the faint of heart). A short aside: I was delighted to discover that this topper seems to have been made to order just for me - not that I was expecting that - but I found the label with my name and address attached to the innermost packaging at the very middle of the compressed, rolled up bundle that the topper arrived in. I haven't been this pleased with a purchase in a very long time. We plan to buy the same topper in a King size along with a matching size cover for the master bedroom. Some points you should consider: First - Latex is heavy, considerably more so if you get a king or California king sized topper. You may need help wrangling it especially if you need to get it up stairs. Second - Consider the height of the topper, especially if it will be placed on top of a pillowtop or other high mattress. You may need to buy sheets with deeper pockets. Third - Buy a cover. Good quality latex isn't cheap and you'll want to protect it from tears and stains; a cover will make it much easier to handle. And Fourth - Wait to unpack it until you have it where you intend to place it. Latex doesn't take as long to expand as memory foam (at least mine didn't). When I removed the plastic wrapping on my topper it expanded instantly - truly instantly - in fact once I had the thing about halfway unwrapped it pretty much unwrapped itself the rest of the way. This is all from my experience with one brand (The Latex Factory) and I don't have any experience with other brands or sizes other than the one I purchased. I hope you find something helpful in all this. Best of luck to you. Read more
