Instead of regular firewood, I use a commercial fire log . To conveniently get them lit, I use these Duraflame firestarters. The particularly nice thing is that I can break them in two and use one half at a time. They’re easy to light, burn for a long time to get the log’s burning. It absolutely takes much less time to start a fire than acquiring kindling and trying to get it to burn properly and then start the logs burning. I grew up chopping kindling and twisting newspapers to get a fire started. These days I’m a little old to be swinging the axe, and I haven’t seen a physical newspaper in years. These little guys do a great job. I tuck one partly under a split log, light it, then tuck a couple other split logs around it. I use one of these to start the wood fire in a wood stove. It burns for at least 30 minutes and leaves no residue, way better than starting a fire with wadded up newspaper. The cost is negligible compared to the cost of the firewood itself. Highly recommended. Read more
