The description for these ear plugs is confusing because it says "Ear Plugs for Sleeping Noise Cancelling" but there is no ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) with these ear plugs. The best that can be said is there is some noise reduction or muffling. I'm not an expert, but according to an Internet lookup: "Noise-cancelling is technology that uses microphones to analyze external sound waves, then creates opposite sound waves (anti-noise) to cancel them out through destructive interference." There is no "active" anything with these ear plugs. They are simply passive ear plugs. I have a small desk fan, and these ear plugs reduce the humming sound of the fan, but I can still hear the hum. Compare that to my ear buds that have Active Noise Cancelling. With the ANC turned on, the hum of the fan is eliminated, i.e., canceled. On the plus side, these ear plugs come with 4 sizes of silicone ear tips, so it's likely you can find one that is a good fit for your ears. When inserted in the ears, the ear plugs can be positioned so that they are flush and flat on the external side, so they are comfortable to use when you lay your head on a pillow for sleeping on your side. These ear plugs come with a small case to pack the ear plugs in. These ear plugs are an improvement over disposable ear plugs, but just be aware that they are not noise canceling. If the claim of "noise canceling" was removed from the description, I would increase my rating to 4 stars. Read more

These just wouldn't fit no matter which tip I used. They just didn't stay in. While in, they didn't block much sound. IMO, these are not noise cancelling. They just don't do the job. Read more

There are better general solutions for earplugs out there but if you are a side sleeper, these are the best solution I’ve found. The problem with most earplugs is that they stick way out from your ears. If you turn your head sideways while sleeping or even touch the pillow with your ear, a typical plug will push into your ear and, at the very least, wake up. If they push too far, they can damage your eardrum. These plugs lay flat in your ear. They do not stick out at all so even laying your head on a pillow works out fine. They lay very flat inside the ear. Another benefit is that they will not hook on anything and fall out while sleeping. You have a choice of different size silicone plugs and you can get a snug comfortable fit. These ate the same style silicone plugs that fit on standard headphones, so they are easily replaceable and allow you to always get a good fit. These will not block 100% of sound. The are 30 dB down, which is a lot, but if someone is playing drums next to you, you’re still going to hear it. I would call it similar to putting a pillow over your ear. So yeah, if you need a general solution then these might not be what you want but for sleeping these are very good.
