So, I am getting older and losing bone. This is the second time now that I have an infection in my gums due to the bone loss. antibiotics will only help temporarily (I was on them 7 months of last year) until I had to have that tooth pulled. Then the bone loss moves over to the next tooth in line...... and the cycle starts again. So I looked at my gum recently and it appeared red in just one area and I new it was starting again. I couldn't get to the doctor right away but I did find an old antibiotic prescription for the time being. Like I expected, the infection was back a month later. I looked at my gums and it looked like a huge pimple with a white center. Gross. I had some charcoal powder at home already, but I didn't look at the label close enough....that one had sls in it and that makes my skin peel. I ordered this jar for the dental infection the next day when I realized why my cheek and gum felt raw. As soon as it arrived, I cut a piece of coffee filter, folded it up and then put some charcoal in the center, refolded it and put it on my gums and went to sleep. I woke up to a black mouth, but there was NO pain AND the infection appeared gone, at least all of the white puss was gone! Pushing on my gums, zero pain. I plan on doing this every day to hopefully draw out ALL of the infection, even if I don't feel or see it, there must be something there so that is why I will be doing this for a few weeks. It certainly won't hurt. My goal is to not have that tooth pulled and that's what the dentist wants to do. I will try to update this in a few months with the outcome. Using activated charcoal for dental purposes is strange. I don't like the taste or consistency of tooth paste so eventually I ended up using activated charcoal. It is not neat. It is surreal to see all that black come out of your mouth when you are done. Cleaning the sink afterward is mandatory. In the end, the hassle is worth it. My teeth are clean, feel smooth, and look just fine. I am not sure that the world turns on the decision to use activated charcoal to clean your teeth, but it is a bit of a better place. Read more

I’ve used other brands of charcoal powders and they all seem to work well (my dentist always comments how bright white my teeth are). This one, however seems to have an odd sulfuric (rotten egg) smell. It’s only noticeable right when you start brushing and goes away, but still a little off putting. Other brands I’ve used are flavored so perhaps that’s why I haven’t experienced the smell prior? Read more
