The size of these things makes it clear they're meant for children. They sound like tambourines and will succeed at filling that role. But if you wanted to use them for a more serious musical context, even just some auxiliary percussion to record for a home studio or something where there's a more critical ear involved, then they do sound a bit thin and cheap, as far as tambourines go. It's still a cutting sound, and even recording on a dynamic mic while playing the tambourine under my desk, it still picked up some sound. They're just not as good as others. They're passable.
