We bought this thermostat because we moved into a two-story house and I wanted to be able to control the temperature from the upstairs bedroom. Our thermostat controller is located downstairs. This works perfectly. While I am upstairs, I can control the temperature using my smart phone and it is so easy to use. Installation was not difficult. Easy to install and Ecobee customer support was wonderful with how I needed to wire it. They provided on the phone support and walked me through the entire installation even testing the system. The Essential does the same as the others basically but does not include the sensor nor air quality monitor. It was replacing a basic non programable Honeywell (cheap) that did have a c wire. The compatibility of the wiring was a little different than this one but customer support walked me through the changes. The temperature control is so easy to control from the wall or the app on your smart phone. Wifi is needed but stays connected all the time with no issues. I will purchase a 2nd one. We have had these before in another home and loved them. I misplaced my 2 sensors so not able to control certain rooms just yet but the past experience they work perfectly. Read more

I bought this thermostat to replace my Nest that Google removed remote support on. I did not want another Nest for Google to collect data from. This would be my 2nd choice and I found the usage to be also second best. This thermostat is in my weekend lake house. Since I am often away I need to manage the temperature remotely. I found the app to manage the away status hard to find. I have to go 4 clicks to get to the setting. I was used to it being on the home page. I have also found that the sensor for automatically changing to away does not work. For the positives it was very easy to install and worked well with my system. I am so pleased with this thermostat purchase! I can adjust the temperature from the actual thermostat or from my iPhone! Even when I’m away from home. I’ve had this for about a month. It’s affordable and so convenient!! It was an easy install (by my son) and it is working VERY well. GREAT GIFT FOR ANYONE! This thermostat is awesome! We installed this one in our FL condo, but we've had it in our MD condo for 5 years. We can check the temperature inside both condos at any time through our phone app. It is easy to change one of our systems from heat to air conditioning & we know if one of our systems are not working. I had some trouble programming both thermostats into one place in the phone app, so I called customer service, and she talked me through it step by step. So much nicer when something just works. After fighting with a more name brand unit for three days, I gave up trying to get it to connect to its internet 'cloud'. As a retired field engineer for major mainframe computer manufacturers, I have the skill, tools, and instruments to troubleshoot virtually any electronic device. I also have a range extender from the same maker which performs well. So I was fairly infuriated that attempts to get their thermostat working was a donkey ride through Hades. Bottom line: back it went, and in came the ecobee. What a difference. Installed perfectly out of the box, their app gui is very well written, and there are enough adjustments to occupy your winter indoor time for as long as you want. All this from what they bill as their "Essential" model. If you, like me, don't need or want the bread maker to start playing recorded versions of your streaming videos in 4K whenever you automatically open your garage door by playing a secret MP3 while pulling into your drive, and just want a quality thermostat whose schedule and activity can be easily and reliably set, you should seriously consider this device. Nice looking product, easy to start up and adjust. There was a hiccup with the install. The mounting plate only has screw holes at the top and bottom, not the sides. The problem with this is the wire inside your wall is typically vertical (down to the floor or up to the ceiling), so unless you get creative, it would be very easy to drill into that wire. They should consider putting holes on the sides of the mounting plate as well so you have a choice. Read more
