Nice set of tools

I've always used a tiny screwdriver or a pick tool for manipulating the latches on automotive electrical connectors, so I thought it would be interesting to see how these pliers compare. I watched a couple of YouTube videos to get the general idea of how these pliers are supposed to work and then used them on some connectors on my car. They definitely make life a lot easier when removing electrical connectors without damaging them. The set consists of straight disconnect pliers, bent disconnect pliers, hose clamp pliers, a forked pry tool, some de-pinning keys, a pair of gloves and a nice zippered case. Both disconnect pliers function well. I tend to gravitate more to the bent set as it has a spring in it that opens the jaws and it is a bit more versatile. The hose clamp pliers are multi-functional working on at least two types of clamps that I can see, plus it looks like they have wire terminal crimping function as well. I did not test them thoroughly, but they worked well on a hose clamp. The forked pry tool is straight at one end and hooked at the other end. I have not had the occasion to use it yet, but it looks like it will come in handy and is a good addition to the kit. I have not yet used any of the de-pinning keys. These are not premium quality tools. The quality is plenty good enough though for my needs as a DIY mechanic and about exactly what I would expect for the price. These tools and the case are all perfectly functional and I consider the set a good value. Read more

Exactly What I Needed for Stubborn Electrical Connectors

I do all of the maintenance and repairs on my family’s vehicles, which were all made in the past ten years or so where there is very little room under the hood. I tested this set on my 1989 Ford Bronco. The engine bay is wide open compared to modern vehicles, but even on that vehicle there are some connectors that are awkward to reach. As shown in one of the images, I was able to use one of the tools to lift the the locking tab cleanly and easily without snapping it off. I have broken more of those little tabs over the years than I care to admit, so that's a big win. The variety in this set is great. Different jaw angles and grip styles let you match the tool to the connector instead of forcing something that does not fit. The handles are comfortable and give you good control when you are trying to apply just enough pressure to release a tab without damaging it. The zippered case keeps everything organized so that you aren't hunting through a toolbox every time you need to do some work that involves disconnecting these types of connectors. For anyone who regularly works on their own vehicles, especially modern ones with tight engine bays, this is a very practical addition to the garage. Read more

Maybe not for beginners, but get this kit and have one less thing to worry about.

Fewer drivers are willing (or able) to tackle their own car repairs nowadays in this era of specialized and complicated vehicles, but many still do. In the 80s and early 90s, my husband was a district manager for a newspaper, and we spent numerous early mornings on the road in all kinds of weather, filling in for his newspaper carriers, with us driving an ancient vehicle that had a litany of potential issues that could (and occasionally did) leave us stranded on the roadside. We were no strangers to needing to do battery or other electrical work in a hurry, and let me tell you, a tool set like this one would have come in really handy. The pliers are sturdy and handle smoothly, and that applies to all the tools. All components are stored neatly and securely in their case and easy to return to their spots (not often true in our experience), and the compact case is ideal for slipping into an existing toolbox or kit or traveling alone. The gloves are a great companion, because even when a tool has a non-slip grip (and these do), there's nothing worse than messing with electrical or other connections if you don't have a secure grasp. This kit, with its range of pliers, separators, and crimping tools, means the difference between having the right tool to work on a myriad of electrical connections in sometimes-unbelievably tight spaces, or fumbling around in frustration and failure, wishing you had access to specialized tools like these. I imagine they'd be great in non-urgent situations too! Read more
