I use an Etekcity infrared laser thermometer to check whether my air conditioning is working properly. I pointed the laser at the ceiling registers, and I should mention that my house has 12-foot ceilings. I found that there was no difference in the temperature readings when measuring from the floor versus getting closer using a ladder. This was good news, and I am satisfied with the performance of the device for this purpose. However, in other instances the thermometer produces inaccurate readings. For example, I attempted to measure the temperature of a heated pan before frying an egg, and the reading was significantly off—most likely due to the reflective nature of the stainless-steel surface. From what I have read, infrared thermometers generally do not perform well when measuring reflective materials. I have had a blast with this thing right out of the box! First and foremost, it is not a medical device, don't take your or somebody else's temperature with it. That's a completely different type of thermometer. This is a highly functioning tool and you should use it as such. Having said that and after taking the temperature of my TV, streaming stick, etc., I do a lot of crafting and have a couple of different heat presses. One of them I'm sure is malfunctioning and has a lot of cold spots. Only way I could prove it was to video taking its temperature set at 400°F. I had a friend calibrate this so she's true. Sure enough, the temperature varied from 359-419°F set at 385°F. I've contacted the company to get warranty support for a replacement. I also use a convection oven to do some other crafting and again getting the right temperature is important. I have an oven thermometer in it but it was saying it was a lot hotter. This guy said it was right on the money. It came with batteries, easy grip, nice looking lightweight and now my new best friend checking my oven temperature to make sure it's not too hot or too cold when I'm baking something. The read speed is almost instantaneous it's so quick. It doesn't store temperatures but do you really need it too? Probably the best money I've spent on Amazon in a long time! Read more

This is the second one of these I have purchased, it works well for my purposes which is to check the basking area(s) for out reptiles, and verify oven temp. I'm please that it now takes AA batteries rather than the 9 volt it used to use. It's lightweight, fits in my hand (average female) nicely. It's easy to use, you pull the trigger and the gun does the rest. The reading come up quickly. As far as durability... Well, I wouldn't suggest bouncing it off a wall or the floor but with normal use it should last for years, my last one did. Read more
