Customers say
Customers find the game very fun to play and consider it one of the better games they've played recently. However, the value for money receives mixed feedback, with some saying it's worth the price while others feel it's not worth $50. Moreover, the controls receive negative feedback, with one customer noting that the sprint button is assigned to R3.

The only hurdle to playing this game is learning it's controls. You can't change the controls, and the layout is oddly very unlike so many other action/adventure games. I had a hard time at first because of my mind-finger memory for playing these games, it was hard remembering the button layout for this particular game. At first I wanted to quit because of it, but I eventually got the hang of the button layout and then the game became a lot of fun. It's one of those games that is a blast to play through and then you are done with it. Read more
Evil West is definitely a video GAME. It's bare bones fun with classic upgrades and awesome environments, fantastic fast paced gameplay. It's basically if Red Dead Redemption met vampires/Blade/Doom/Devil May cry/zombies/werewolves. I usually never review my games but this game is absolutely fun. I love juggling enemies with punches, then shooting with the revolver, dodging an oncoming boss, doing a perfect parry, shotgun into punch combo and finish with an electric finisher. You're not getting story of the year. You're getting quick and to the point campy dialog with excellent gameplay. What more could you want? Read more

I pre-ordered this game not really knowing what to expect. I figured it would be decent at least. I was not prepared for how awesome this game would be! Usually these games that have a set path (non open world) get boring after a while, but I have not tired of this game yet. There are enough power ups and enemy types to keep the game interesting, and I honestly cannot wait to kick some Felicity butt!! I hate that vampire chic…. Read more
21 hours of gameplay on Hard & Normal (75/25) I wasn’t quite sure what to think when I first heard of Evil West. I’m not necessarily a cowboy fan per se, but I was intrigued by a game that’s daring enough to NOT follow a souls-like formula. Let’s be honest: Most action games nowadays are either a souls-like or open world. The regular linear games like the old school God of War, Devil May Cry, and Castlevania are gone by the wayside. It was nice to see a “callback” to that era of gaming, and I was intrigued enough to give Evil West a fair shot. Top 3 PROS: Multiplayer — My favorite thing about this game is the multiplayer feature, as I feel this game was MADE to play with another person. Granted, I’m probably only about 30% through my co-op playthrough with a buddy of mine, but I’ve seen enough to realize how enjoyable it is. There are some buggy things here and there, but I can easily overlook those. I’ll talk more about this in the cons section but I’ve yet to feel bored or overwhelmed like I did when playing by myself. Can you play it solo? Sure you can. With that being said, I would recommend finding someone to play with in order to get the most out of the game. Weaponry — I’ve always enjoyed games that provide me with options when it comes to weapons. Not only are there several weapons and skills to choose from; they’re unlocked at the perfect times. Just when things start to get stale, I unlocked/found a new weapon that became my go-to until I uncovered the next one. I know some categorize Evil West as a melee game, but I played it as a 3rd person shooter with the option to use melee when the situation called for it. All of those different weapons I mentioned? Those are ranged weapons. Linear —As I mentioned in my intro, we don’t see many straightforward games like this anymore. Although open world games are by far my favorite genre, I wouldn’t mind playing the occasional linear game that’s NOT a souls-like! It’s a from point A to point B game with hidden goodies spread across alternate routes. I’ll talk about this later, but the alternate route part could have been done better. All in all, I wouldn’t mind seeing more straight forward games like this. Top 3 CONS: Arena Style of Gameplay — I’ll explain what this means and why it’s a problem for me. Each combat encounter consists of wave after wave of enemies – the same type of enemies over and over again. If you’ve ever played a game that features an “Arena” as side content, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. Just because you’re a linear game doesn’t mean you have to overuse this style of gameplay. Here’s what I’d prefer: One group of enemies, and that’s it for that encounter. DO NOT send out five enemies, then when their numbers start to dwindle, here comes 4 more, then 3 more, then two big guys, etc. They take the same approach with bosses. I’m so tired of games not giving me a nice 1v1 boss battle. Everything has to be a boss with adds helping them out. It’s important to note that I don’t mind this if I’m playing with another person because it’s fun taking on mobs with a friend; but not in a solo campaign. If you’re going to do this, then at least give me an AI companion (Mass Effect for example). Bad Controls — For starters, it would be ideal if we could remap the buttons. For example, I’m a “press circle button to dodge” kind of guy”. The X button is assigned to dodging, and I needed to reprogram my brain to get used to that. None of this matters because the controls aren’t very responsive as a whole. The sprint button is assigned to R3. I sprint quite a bit in battle, and I can’t tell you the number of times he would NOT sprint when I needed him to. I know it’s not my controller because R3 was assigned to sprinting in God of War Ragnarök, and it was never a problem. Trying to change weapons on the fly was a problem at times as well because it sometimes didn’t work. I don’t care if a game is AAA or AA; I need the buttons to do what I tell them to do… Navigation — Hear me out on this one. Ok, it’s a linear game, but remember I mentioned the goodies that could be found off the beaten path? Well, it was often VERY difficult to discern where said beaten path was. A lot of the “paths” look alike, and if you happen to choose the path that progresses the story, you’re not able to go back. This was very annoying and caused me to miss out on a lot of upgrades and other stuff. There’s an easy fix for this. I hate to bring up GoW again, but a simple press of a button would point the camera where you needed to go to progress the story. That prevented me from accidentally progressing the story when I wanted to explore a bit. Is Evil West a great game? Nope. Is it even a good game? Sometimes I suppose. I believe it’s the kind of game that could vastly improve if there were to be a sequel. As I’ve already mentioned, I’m having an absolute BLAST playing it with a buddy while I didn’t have a blast playing it solo. Although I didn’t have a “blast” playing it by myself, I still like the game overall. Take from that what you will. Gotham Knights; you’re up next!! Read more
I wanted so badly to like this game. I kept going back to it but I just can’t enjoy it. Maybe the problem is I went straight from GOWR to this. It feels like a cheap ripoff of GOWR with a different theme. Maybe better screen and control customization would help but I’m not sure. This one was just a waste of money for me. Read more
