The chameleon purple blue shell was just the RIGHT color pick for my eyes along with the chrome silver and red and the chameleon purple blue rise4 remap kit for my Infinite controller. The color shift was the effect I needed and eXtremerate didn’t disappoint once again. My controller now has a nice and smooth texture and I have some experience disassembling and reassembling my controllers so the process was very simple. The colors and design makes it stand out better than my Black Hole and Metallic Sun controllers. Unfortunately for me, I’ll have to wait for my metallic red buttons, scarlet red accent rings and tactile clicky kit to finish customization but so far looking good. Great quality shell. Smooth, feels comfortable in your hands, and looks great. Assembly is far more involved then you may think due to its simplicity, but their youtube channel has extensive step-by-step tutorials on how to swap it out. I am hopeless when it comes to things like this and would never be able to figure it out on my own, but I was easily able to do it with the help of the video and felt quite accomplished afterwards. I had upgraded the joycons and Switch housing on my Nintendo Switch, but didn't write a review. Why? Installation was tedious and I ran out of patience after completion. I pulled a youtube video up and walked along with it to deconstruct, and swap out the parts. I have the tools and the dexterity but you are working with small parts. OF NOTE: Depending on the model of controller (There are 3 variations in the PS5 controller) Your touchpad bracket may or may not have two screws anchoring it. Mine had one screw only and I didn't need to worry about the controller speaker. That being said, I am SO happy with the Shell, I may replace the buttons at some point. ALSO NOTE: when I did put the shell on and secured everything, my buttons felt "Dry" or "Gritty" and would squeak (D-Pad mostly) The solution is a little bit of mechanical keyboard switch lube on a small paintbrush, between the housing and actual buttons. Nothing the manufacturer could have done, but this was my experience. The Light Violet front shell from eXtremeRate looks absolutely stunning out of the box. The color is vibrant, the finish is smooth, and the paint job is incredibly well done. No streaks, blotches, or uneven areas. It gave my PS5 a totally unique, eye-catching look that pops whether it’s on a shelf or my gaming setup. Swapping Shells and Color: As someone who has experience shell-swapping PS4 controllers, I personally find PS5 controllers more difficult to work with, as it feels more intricate to swap the shells. But once done and assembled, they look absolutely beautiful. I decided to swap only the front shell to have a color contrast with the touchpad, and it was the best decision I made. But I do want to mention that the paint is only on the top surface of the shell, as under the shell it is not painted. Additionally, the product states within its bio that it is "glossy," but from pictures and in-person, that is not the case, as it has a matte finish. That is to be expected, and I got exactly what I wanted. Texture & Feel: The surface has a really nice texture—matte and slightly grippy without feeling rough. It doesn’t attract fingerprints, and the overall aesthetic is solid. The Trade-Off: The only real downside is the lack of a clear protective coat. After about a year of use, especially with long gaming sessions and sweaty hands, the paint has started to show some slight yellowing. It’s subtle, but noticeable under good lighting. Honestly, it’s not a huge deal, as it was kind of expected since there’s no clear coat to seal the paint. It is clear that after another year, the stunning color will fade badly through time, but as far as it goes, it will be a worthwhile year. But I do suggest hitting the shell with a nice matte clear coat to protect the color and the texture. (Which is a pain to say, because I would like to receive the shell without needing further modifications.) Final Thoughts: If you’re going for looks, this shell nails it. Just be aware that without a protective layer, some wear and aging will show over time. Still, for the price and the visual upgrade, it’s worth it. Read more
